I weep for the state of modern education in the world today.
What are they teaching kids these days?

You are in a very small minority. You should not be surprised when people find it strange when you don't understand references to popular culture. Wendryn and I have a TV in the house, but no cable. There are a lot of references that I don't get -- though we do try to keep up on good sf -- and people give me strange looks for it. Get used to it, because it is only going to get worse as time passes.

How many channels do you get? On a good day, when the stars align, we get three -- Fox, NBC, and ABC. On a really good day, once in a blue moon, we also get PBS. Though it is always snowy. ;)

Well, let me think...
- ABC
- CBS
- NBC
- Fox
- what was the WB (now myATL)
- a couple of religious channels we ignore
- for some reason HSN (static hell)
- something called Ion that has things like Mama's Family and Growing Pains on all the time.
- TBS
- The CW (formerly UPN/WB)
- and of course PBS/GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting)
My TV watching is limited to Heroes, The Office, CSI, Law and Order, House, and Family Feud at lunchtime (seeing as I walk home for lunch).
While the written word it generally preferable, there are much better books than that one.
