Will my new PC run Defcon?
Motherboard: ASUS P5B (you're supposed to be able to overclock this board like crazy)
Processor: Intel Core Duo 6400 (can be overclocked to outperform a €1000 processor)
Videocard: ASUS Radeon 1900XT 256MB
Memory: Kingston HyperX, 2048MB
Harddrive: Seagate 320GB
DVD: A DVD burner and player from Samsung
Case: Antec Performance, comes with a very decent 500W supply
You guys think this will run Defcon and The Next Next Next game?

Well we all know that you cant be serious about asking if it runs or not. Core 2 duo is the way to go. But graphic cards is the most important in games. And of what ive heard the favourite CPU for gamers is E6600. Slightly more expensive but its practicly the same CPU as E6800 Extreme which cost alot more. Its about 100 dollar more if i remember correctly and well worth the 100 extra (compared to your), oh and the HD is not that fast... A 10 000 RPM Raptor disc is the way to go...
My system is not top of the line and i bought my AMD when core 2 duo didnt exist.
K8N- SLI platinum
X2 4200+ OC running 2,4 GHZ
1 GB ram
1x Raptor 74 GB (OS disc)
7900 GT (470 MHZ can easily be overklocked running stable to over 700 MHZ, has a friend who done it for months. When i have a need i will do it.. Easy volt mod, that can be removed= no solder and probably beats your card when running at 700 MHZ ...) (Edit http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=635&page=6 mine at 660 MHZ is slightly slower, but add another 40-50 MHZ and its almost equally as fast card. Which is absolutely something that will run stable, a friend has done it on two different card with good results both times. I paid 299 dollars for 4 months ago for the card..)
2x200 GB Maxtor + 1x 250 GB maxtor (storage)
Everything works fine, upgrading to core 2 duo would cost about 500 dollar to be worth it, and i dont have the need yet. Yeah im in the sandbox. I sort of think you deserve it and you might be able to learn something. The HD is a weak point if you want a system running fast. Slow disks are good for storage but as OS and game install disc you should have a fast disc. For the moment that means raptor discs.

Good points, but the difference between the E6400 and E6600 is that the 6600 has 4MB, and the 6400 2MB cache. I have already read a couple of benchmarks that show that there is barely any improvements there (if the 6400 is clocked to 6600 speeds). Think of the difference (or lack thereof) with 512MB or 256MB ram on videocards.
And I would have gone with Nvidia myself, were it not for one thing: the 1900XT was priced the same as a 7900GT, yet completely kicks its ass at stock speeds. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics. ... &chart=196
Think of the performance when this baby is overclocked!
And I did look at a 10K rpm HDD, but then I would be paying twice the money for a a third of the storage. No thanks, I'll live with my 7,2K rpm disc. The fact that the HDD spins faster, doesn't mean the videocard will be able to draw lighting effects faster.

Maybe, but you might need to upgrade your graphics card and add some more ram. Oh, and the case is hardly "bling-bling" enough for defcon, so you might have issues with that.
