Could we get a unified forum policy here, please?

The place to hang out and talk about totally anything general.

Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 80 pixels, the height no greater than 80 pixels, and the file size no more than 6 KB.
Any image larger than that is re-sized.
Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

Not in IE.

IE ignores the "max-width: 80px; max-height: 80px;".

Funny, my IE doesn't.
I wonder why...maybe because it's being enforced server side?

Eitherway, sigs are fine, screw you hackman or whatever your name. :P
And measurements of 120x120, 150kb should do just fine.
I have no problem with larger shit, but 56kers tend to cry "murder".

Eitherway, none of this really matters.

Fact still is, we got avatars, uplink got sigs, it's a completely illogical situation and should be rectified, both should have them and be done with it.
I'm pretty sure there's a mod you can install so users can choose if whether they wish to view avat/sigs or not.

So now I'm doing his job?
Why don't you throw sysop my way and start whining all your problems to me too?

No thanks.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.
You wanna cry because these forums are like 4 seperate entities?
That's because... shoch-horror... to all intents and purposes, they are!

I think that the relaxed rules is a Very Good Thing.
You don't have someone with a chip on their shoulder being gittish and going "ZOMGNOES! Maximum width of an image in a signature is 480x150 pixels! You're 481x150!!!! BAN.

Why must NeoThermic put in all the effort for something you want done? It's not like it's hard to find said mod.

Because he's the bloody SysOp!

:P :P :P

Deep, you damn smeg, seperate sections or not, the users are the same, it's as stupid as...I dunno...making X-com 2 with an entirely different GUI than X-com 1.
Imagine Onlink making you manualy enter entire lines of proxy bouncing instead of using the Uplink world map.
You get the gist. Or gest, or jest, jist? I'm lost...willywag! Save me!

I'm not talking about the rules even.
The rules were never a part of the equasion, I don't know why neothermic brought it up, maybe he got confused.
I never noticed any rules to begin with.
Then again, my sig and avatars are within the realms of reason, so I guess it's why it was never brought to my attention (if you don't break the law, you might never know it's there...), maybe naming the thread "forum policy" confused him off my intention.
Eitherway, I'm not talking about the rules.
It's quite simple, uplink has this, this got that, the other one has whatever...lets enable all three and be good with it.
If someone abuse, warn once, smack their ass twice.
Give Rkiver moderator if you're too bussy or lazy to handle misbehaviors (I can see rkiver screaming "NOOOOO!").

Yeah, its just as stupid as having a different UI for Darwinia, Defcon, and Uplink! Oh... wait...

Same developer, different game concepts entirely altogether?
While X-Com was same game concept, different developers.

What I was trying to point out is that Darwinia and Uplink are not the same game and have different interfaces. The Uplink forum is different from the Darwinia forum, so why shouldn't it look different. The Darwinia theme would not work in the Uplink forum. The communities of people in the two forums are not the same (though there is a good deal of overlap). Why shouldn't they retain their own character in the form of restrictions on avatars and sigs?

Since when? As far as I can tell, I lack the 'IV Staff' rank ;)

In my dictionary (internal, you'll have to use my USB jack behind my ear to obtain a copy), policy is about rules. Thus a forum policy is forum rules. But, you're reffering to rules of the style, so dunno. We're all confused ;)

Gravitron wrote:It's quite simple, uplink has this, this got that, the other one has whatever...lets enable all three and be good with it.

Three? Sigs, Avatars... I cound two? Anywho, I'm assuming you ment 'enable all [avatars and sigs] on all three [forums]', in which case it was a general consideration by Chris that the Darwinia forums has avatars only (see this post). In an extended fashion, if you're browsing here from the Uplink forums, you see user sigs. If you're here from the Darwinia forums, you see avatars. Logical eh?

Gravitron wrote:If someone abuse, warn once, smack their ass twice.

Thus we have to define abuse. Thus we have to define rules.

Hmm...
I'm sure Rkiver is busy moderating a bunch of AOL-forumites, I doubt he needs any more to moderate ;)

Seems to me everyone is confused in here. DEFINITIONS:

Avatars are usually animated. What this forum is posting are photos.
Size limits are okay by me. I kinda like the opportunity to post a same size TIF as in the Uplink game (ie. Academic records).

But:
Sigs should not have any graphics. I would go as far as a single line of text limit or nothing at all.
The current sigs are verticle in line with text we're reading, and I feel they are a distraction.

Down with Sigs.

Funny how quick were you to throw away markings of a superiorly ranked user.
Just not 24 hours ago you had an all red avatar, perhaps name tag as well and your name appeared in the board user listing color coded as an administrator.
I do believe that you've also said that you're the one who operates the box this BBS is operated on/off of?

Define abuse? If an administrator deems it inappropriate it's abuse.
Fair enough?
Go ahead, crack one about how posting this thread was abusive.

And Xander, what does THEME (which except darwinia, they're quite lacking at) has to do anything with enabling AVATARS and SIGNATURES?
Would it be "in theme" if they disabled your private messages in uplink, because, you know, the email function was never really working? Or in Darwinia, since it has none to begin with.
Maybe Uplink forums should have an IRC mod too?
Don't act like a dummy, you aren't one and you know better.
