Heh, I've seen a liger up close. Went to a wildlife refuge once (
Turpentine Creek), they had one that had been in a circus. We were there for feeding time, they fed it four (whole) chickens and it put them all in its mouth at the same time and started crunching. Wouldn't want to be alone with one of those. Also got to see one tiger sneak up on it's sibling in the woods (open pin area). Nobody watching heard a sound and it was during the fall with leaves and sticks all over the ground (plus normal grass/weeds). The other tiger was the most surprised.
However, the most interesting part of the whole trip was two tigers in a regular pin in the main area were playing/aggravating each other (making lots of noise) and the staff was constantly breaking it up. They had one adult male lion at the time that finally got tired of it and climbed on top of his "house" and let out a roar that everybody knew meant "enough!". It went dead quite for several minutes. Talk about making your hair stand up.
anyway...
