Woohoo, I'll have my guns next week! I had to leave them behind when I moved out, but I'll be headed back for them soon.

Hmm... seems like I'll spend the first week and a half at college with very limited internet access.

The good news is that afterwards I should have access to a 30 Mb connection.

I saw Brian Wilson live yesterday. It was a nice show, although he is getting rather old.

A few months late, but this popped up on Reddit (Portal 2 spoilers [and in the URL itself, too])

So...perhaps some of you Americans can explain this to me. Watching the NFL games these past few weeks I've been exposed to some of the commercials that go along with it. Now, aside from them being just a little bit more obnoxious than our local commercials, I'm surprised by one particular element: light beer being presented as the most masculine thing known to mankind. I'm generally not a real fan of the 'light' fad but this goes beyond the usual marketing hype in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not convinced beer is an extremely manly drink by itself, but if I'm going to give any beverage that label it sure as hell isn't going to be light beer.

Light beer used to be considered a "sissy" bear, but about thirty or so years ago the beer companies started getting NFL players to shill for it. Since then, popularity has gone way up, and the NFL has become a major marketing venue for them.

In the US there's a lot of jokes about people having a "beer gut", a wad of belly fat that comes from high carbs in beer with low activity. Light beer appeals to the people who watch football who are getting older, since they feel they can drink beer while watching football with less weight gain.

American = NFL?

I don't watch football at all. In fact, I hate the damn sport... (maybe because I'm still in high school)

Time between me going back to college and my mother getting my old laptop (aka: her PC for quite some time now) completely FUBAR?

Less than 24 hours :P

Had to uninstall the graphic card drivers just to be able to enter windows without safe mode, and even then the PC is crawling.

Backing up some 25 Gb of photos so I can then format the bloody thing in a hope of rescuing it from the scrap heap.

Not high hopes however.

EDIT: Good news: the PC works. Bad news: The graphics card appears to be borked and causes the computer to black out the moment a display driver is installed.

EDIT2: Huh. Seems to have started working properly after (re-)installing service pack 3 for XP. I wonder if it was a coincidence and/or if it will hold.

Given that the owner of said photos was my mother, that's a disturbing thought :P

In this case the photos were mostly from my brother's wedding (prior to the honeymoon, obviously).

In other news, since friday there were 5+ forest fires within my home village area, with the total for the year going well into double digits by now.

Giving how few there had been in the past few years, I'm of the opinion someone is due to getting intimately acquainted with the prison showers.

Back from a cross country weekend trip. A couple days visiting family in Utah, and now I'm back.

Fun fact: I got much better service once I told my airline I was carrying a gun in my suitcase!

You know, without the bloody 3D holding it down, Tron Legacy is a very enjoyable movie.
