Which, among other reasons, is why I put it in the "bad idea" catagory (though I personally disagree with the notion that the shooting "triggered" the riots in any significant form other than offering a timely excuse to kick them off).

I'd have no problem with it, but that doesn't mean that there would be no problems with it.

Definitely, especially considering some of the rioters have guns (apparently), if the police starts shooting things will get really crazy.

Wonder what they're actually going to do though.

Hope you're safe Monty!

Hm?

There's quite a serious problem in London when it comes to youth gun crime, from what I understand.

But then again, a handful of guns in the UK is quite a serious issue considering how much we try to restrict their distribution.

That criminals might shoot back is very, very low on my list of reasons not to shoot them in the first place.

Touché!

It's more the issue of it escalating and more police-men dying.

Though at the moment I'm really wishing the police would do more, as if they don't contain things it'll get worse and it will be up to the civilians to protect their property, which means people will die. . . .

I've had a lot of friends and family in law enforcement, some of whom have been involved in riot suppression (the LA and Watts riots). Even when you've got a good police force that is working hard, whether it's a person breaking into your house or a full blown riot, it takes time for them to gain control of the situation. That's why I love the 2nd Amendment. I'm really not concerned with shooting zombies or UN troops who've invaded America, but I'm aware that once you dial "911" the danger is far from over.

Hopefully this will get wrapped up soon. Burning down their own neighborhoods isn't going to help their economic and social situation. Interestingblog postfrom what seems to be a deployed police officer on it (given the source, take with grain of salt).

I am not concerned with riots in a police state, but for the polemic argument:

Not burning down their neighborhoods obviously didnt help them either.

Perhaps, but the question remain that if this is in fact due to social differences, whether they're succeeding in calling attention to it, or just making matters worse for themselves on account of having public opinion turn against them.

Can't watch the news reports if it isn't the latest triple-screen full-HD 3D eh? ;)

Anyones knows a good series? Not crap like white collar and lie to me...

More like The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, True Blood, you catch my drift? Anyone?

Doctor Who and Futurama has stolen countless hours of my life. I can recommend them both.
