Well, for the AU$170 you can get it for here, the 9800GT is a great deal... if he's looking for something more powerful, maybe a 4850?
Depends on the size of screen really.
22 inch, say 1650x1050, then a 4850 will do most games rather well, bar crysis.
If he is gaming at 1950x1600 or whatever it is, then a 4870 would be what I'd advise, or a 4890. Pixmania.com was doing a good deal on one for £169.
Right now the nvidia cards aren't really worth it. ATI has beaten them at this time.

Couldn't you just add that to the end of every graphics card description?
No, as anyone with a clue about graphics cards would tell you so. 4870 can run crysis. 4870x2, 4890. Nvidia 285. They all can play crysis at a decent framerate and resolution.

Well my ATI X1550 (basically a renamed x1300) is making me really, really sad that I have to drop everything on Zeno Clash to low for a playable framerate. I should probably stop splurging for new games and just save up for a decent graphics card (I hope I can save up before something good like Heavy Rain or Brutal Legend comes along).
