Steam MacOSX beta testers required

Postby Chris » Wed Apr 27, 2011 4:06 pm

We are in the process of bringing all our games to Steam for Mac OSX, and need some help testing our new builds. Anyone who has bought our games on Steam will automatically gain access to the Mac OSX versions free of charge once they are finished.

We currently have Uplink and Darwinia ready to test. The beta versions are available to anyone who has already bought those games over Steam - simply launch Steam on your Mac and you'll see both games in your list ready to download and play.

These builds require an Intel based Mac, running at least MacOS 10.5.

Please report any problems by replying directly to this thread. Alternatively you can use the Mac troubleshooting forums for each game:
Uplink Mac OSX forum
Darwinia Mac OSX forum

Please let us know what hardware and Mac OS version you are running when you report problems.

Thanks, enjoy!

Wow! I seriously did not expect to to happen!

This is great news, even though I will never ever touch a Mac.

And most importantly, stop the people coming here every once in a while telling IV they should make their games SteamPlay)

Won't stop them from feeling smug about this all being their idea, and won't stop other idiots posting about iOS/Android/Tamagotchi ports.

But seriously, this is awesome. Sadly, we only have a PPC Mac.

I'm equal parts curious since I wonder whether a Darwinian tamagotchi would work, and annoyed since you reminded me those blasted things ever existed.

Sweet! :D
If there were only two games to play in the world, I would choose a text editor and a good C compiler.

Good news for the Mac users out there. A few more games certainly can't hurt to be added into their collection.

Nifty. If I ever have time to play anything other than Tetris again, I'll give it a go (yay thesis research!).

Very cool.

So does that mean we can expect to see DEFCON and Multiwinia next, with simultaneous release of Subversion on all platforms? ;)

Quick question though - can I buy the PC version of these games now to enable the Mac beta, or did I need to have already owned them?

Any chance this offer will extend to people who bought boxed versions? I have bought 3 copies each of all the introversion games

First, you are all awesome for (re?)releasing your games on Mac through Steam.

I just wanted to post a Crash to Desktop error I received while playing Uplink.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7

In game, I was running the password cracker as I had many times previously, but this time in froze (on the last letter) and crashed to desktop

Here are brief snippets of what I suspect are significant from the Problem Report

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 1 Dispatch queue: com.apple.libdispatch-manager

Let me know if you'd like more information!

You'd be better off posting that on Ambrosia's forums for a bug like that. Rather then in a news section.

Hi I have a Mac and bought the Steam Version to play on XP (Bootcamp) after I already bought the OS X version from Ambrosiawhen they came out!

I just quickly tried the Steam Versions of Uplink and Darwinia on OSX 10.6.7 on MacBook. They just work fine!

But I have a few questions also:
Does Ambrosia continue to support their versions of the Introversion games?

Will the other introversion games follow?

Esp. Subversion, I guess there is reason to presume that there will be a Mac Version, too?

Thanks, anyway!
