Uplink and Darwinia released on Ubuntu Software Center

Postby Mark » Thu Mar 24, 2011 12:55 pm

We're pleased to announce that we've teamed up with Canonical and have launched Darwinia and Uplink on the Ubuntu Software Center. I remember the days when Linux was a horrible alternative to Windows (and apple were no where to be seen), but things have come a very long way since then. I recently installed Ubuntu on a machine, burnt a disk and turned on Treme, because I knew that OS Installs take hours with occasional input to tell it where in the world it is and what sort of Keyboard you use. Anyway, 20 mins later and we're fully up and running and the interface looked sexy. I'm really hoping to re-kindle our relationship with Linux users as I've always believed that Uplink has to be the *perfect* game for linux fans, and if we get enough takers we may even release Subversion for Linux on launch day (Chris'll kill me for promising that)!

So if I bought it through the online store can I get it via the software center?

Hurrah!

It's always nice to see IV's games appear for sale somewhere new!

Let's hope for lots more Linux love in the future!

Welcome to a new world of gamers

This is very awesome news and I hope other games makers will follow suit. Congratulations on realising the opportunity as you have now opened yourself up to a big market of starved gamers. I for one will be buying this off the Ubuntu Software Center .... as soon as I have the money to do so :P

Defcon

Postby elkimo » Thu Mar 24, 2011 6:30 pm

Is there any reason why Defcon was not included in this deal?

In my opinion Defcon is a great game, and proof of how great Linux games can look. It's my favorite Introversion game.

I would love to see it included in the Ubuntu Software Center, as it would ease installation (and updating), and might attract a lot of new Linux users. It's a great game, that looks good, and there's really not much competition in Linux gaming-world, so I would imagine there are quite some people who would be interested in buying this game, I for one am definitely among them.

Purchased and had these running on my Ubuntu box before there was an Ubuntu Software Center..
When Subversion comes out for Linux, I will be here waiting.. ;-)

Ubuntu is pretty user-friendly nowadays. Until you try to install things on your own. Then it's back to being good-ole cryptic error message Linux.
Turn on, tune in, drop out.
