Ten years of Uplink!

Postby Chris » Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:44 pm

"Establishing connection to Uplink public access server..."

To anyone who's played Uplink, today's date might seem eerily familiar.

24th March 2010 - the date you see on your clock when you first log in to the game and create an Agent. A date I originally chose for two reasons : 24th March is my birthday (31 today, thanks), and 2010 was TEN YEARS into the future. It was so far into the distant future it didn't even seem like a real date. From today onwards, Uplink will in fact be set in the past.

Which of course means ten years of Introversion Software. In that time we've had Uplink, Darwinia, DEFCON, Multiwinia and now Darwinia+ for Xbox. We've seen the rise of Indie games from nothing to the major force they are in the games market today. We've seen the market change completely - and the rise of digital distribution systems on all platforms that have revolutionised game delivery. We've lived through an incredibly turbulent and exciting time in games.

Big thanks to everyone who's enjoyed our games over the past decade.

Happy birthday Chris! :D

Also, does this mean the internet is just a few weeks away of being taken down by a Virus? :(

YAY! I remember back then. The community was incredible in supplying MODs, Icepick's MODs were genius. The community has only grown from there. So has IV! Inever thought I would follow a Indie company like I have you all.

I should repurchase the Dev CD so I can get back into playing Uplink. You all should cut the price now after so long. j/k

I would love to see some tenth anniversary Uplink stuff roll out.

Congrats to IV for ten years of Bedroom Programming!

I remember when I first played the demo, sent out by either Computer Gaming World or Computer Games Magazine. Good times!

I'm still waiting for November 2019; I'm gonna book myself a flight to LA; and if it's not a postmodern dystopia with flying cars and androids, I'm gonna be very disappointed.

Happy birthday & looking forward to the next 10 years from IV...

Ah 10 years since I played the demo, thought it was alright and promptly forgot about it.

5 years since I had finished Darwinia, wanted a new game to play, bought Uplink and was up at 2 am scribbling down IP codes and hacking banks. Good times. Might replay this after my exams, I'm sure I'll get addicted all over again.
