Amid the world-wide reporting in the press today, we can confirm that Introversion has been working on a DS version of DEFCON, and we are now in the process of finding a publisher to work with to release it. For those who are interested, here was the press release we sent out earlier today.

Perfect Partner Sought for World Domination...or a Nice Game of Chess

Introversion has begun the search for the perfect publishing partner for the DS version of its classic, Wargames-inspired strategy title, DEFCON!

20th April 2009 – London, England. The UK’s favourite indie developer today announced it has regained all rights to the finished DS SKU of its critically-acclaimed DEFCON franchise.

As yet unpublished, the DS version was originally developed in conjunction with troubled distributor, Pinnacle.

Introversion anticipates considerable interest in the title, given the astonishing success of the DS hardware range worldwide.

“With the DSi flying off the shelves recently, we believe that there will be particular interest in a finished DS product with such a great track record, especially as the RTS/Strategy sector is so poorly served on the platform,“ said Mark Morris, Director at Introversion.

DEFCON is considered to be a classic Action/Strategy title in PC gaming circles, with a Metacritic score of 84 and average User Review on the site of 8.7.

Introversion has appointed veteran agents, Bad Management, to assist it in its discussions with, and evaluation of, potential publishing partners.

Said John Cook, Senior Partner at Bad Management, “In the current risk-averse environment, companies are placing a premium on finished products with a well-established brand and track record. DEFCON DS is a fantastic publishing opportunity, and we’re confident we will be able to find the right fit for Introversion.”

Specifically adapted for DS with full stylus control, a unique game-mechanic and all the chilling effects of the original Armageddon sim, DEFCON DS is expected to appear on the shelves worldwide in Q3 2009.

I'm disappointed there's no Wii version with added waggle.

Seriously though, if I owned a DS, I would buy it.

Edit: Whoops! Fixed.

I wonder what the "unique game mechanic" is...

Hmm, since the DS has multiplayer mode, will it interface with the main pc game I wonder?

Too bad I will never buy a DS. Nevah!

Still, any thing that breaths life into DEFCON is good.

Like what? Throwing ICBMs like darts? Hmm, wait a second. /me is off designing Wii Megalomaniac Sports.

Yep, it has WLAN support. The two 'classic' variants only support WEP encryption, though.

Probably not. Gameplay has been changed for the DS.

wow, an rts on the ds. The genre isn't just not-well-catered-for, it is non-existant on the ds. knowing u lot, it's gonna own.

Couple of questions though:

this isn't dsi exclusive is it? if it is i'm gonna cry.

will it still have office mode :P ?

In my opinion: not a chance. There's far to little parity between what the PC version does and what the DS is capable of achieving.

I think Ace Rimmer has inadvertently stumbled upon the truth here, given that DS has a microphone, most commonly used for embarrassing little "quick - blow into the mic!" moments on the morning commute. ;)

As long as it's just blowing and not screaming "LAUNCH ALL ICBMs! NOW! CODE RED!" at the top of your lungs...

How about a promo-video showing it in action? Or would this interfere with some serious gameing industry business?
