New multiplayer Multiwinia demo released!

Postby vic » Fri Oct 24, 2008 6:25 pm

Sometimes at Introversion we make mistakes and we’re not averse to holding up our hands, admitting we’ve ballsed up and offering a solution to the problem.

We’ve noted a lot of complaints from people on this forum, and further afield, that the Multiwinia demo lacked one fundamental component. Multiplayer.

Whilst it may be fun to crush the living daylights out of AI bots we appreciate that for many of you, the lack of multiplayer in the demo experience was stopping you from giving Multiwinia a go in the first place.

So the IV dev team have since been hard at work to create a fantastic new Multiwinia demo that provides a great online multiplayer experience with the available demo maps, and also allows demo players to join full games when hosted by a fully paid up player over a LAN. That’s not all – the demo also now contains an extra mode from the full game called Rocket Riot.

We hope you enjoy the new demo and as always any feedback or comments you have to make will be listened to and greatly appreciated.

*Shreds post*
The steam update news told me basically most of what I wanted to know :D
the only thing I like to know, is there room limits to what the demos can play?
Like only 2 Demo's can play each other. And for games bigger then 2, Only one demo player per a lobby can play , Like Defcon basically.

I'd like to point out the improved demo is already out.

From what I've seen, there are a select few maps a demo user can play on (a few DOM, 1 KOTH, 1 RR), whether they host, joins or play single player.

As one of the "vocal ones", I have to thank you for this classy move.

As I have my fully paid copy, I promise to start on the multiplayer fun with my workteam on monday's lunch, and I expect a few extra copies of Multiwinia will sell in the following weeks :)

Cheers, and thank you for listening.

Same keys on same LAN

Postby Jabe » Sat Oct 25, 2008 2:51 pm

It also looks like 2 Multiwinias licensed with the same key can now play each other on the same LAN!

Which is fantastic news!

Are all games available to them - or just the demo ones?

All of them. Full means "authenticated".

Same key LAN play stopped working

Postby Jabe » Sat Oct 25, 2008 4:24 pm

I managed to get two PCs with the same key playing each other on the same LAN this morning, but this afternoon I get the "Duplicate authorisation key" error!

It looks like the hosting PC was recognised as being on the same LAN as it was coloured differently (purple instead of green).

Am I supposed to be able to play with 2 PCS with the same key on the same LAN?

If not - surely I should be able to if a demo version can?

(I realise I'm probably posting this in the wrong forum - so I'll cross post if I don't get a response!)

Cheers,

I think you may have to downgrade one of the clients to the demo version for this to work.

Yeah thanks - just tried that and I just can't get them to connect.

I see the host and the password is accepted then sometimes it does the Attempts count, and sometime it seems to connect but doesn't really :(

Also I have to host one of the demo games or else I get the Full version only message on the Demo client.

Is anyone else having problems with this patch?

Password protection and LAN games don't always mix, unfortunately. The client will try to connect to the server's public IP, which fails.
