Anyway Having post counts doesnt mean you are all of that you know.. (just saying)...Ive been playing uplink since the first month it was out but sadly with school, work, moving, internet trouble i haven't been on here in ages but i have been playing the game still and when i did have a chance to get on i would download some mods and have fun ^_^.... Anyway i think "Veterans" and people that just joined have the same chance of getting into the closed Beta as everyone else.... Just because its there first time on the forums doesnt mean they arent in love with the game =P

Also this is my new account since my other one got deleted for inactivity.

Aside from post counts and duration of forum membership, there are not many ways that IV have to gauge "trust". Thus, forum veterans do have a better chance of being selected for the beta. As I said above, there are other things that might distinguish a potential tester. For instance, bert_the_turtle has worked with IV to create the DedCon server. TGF tore apart the Darwinia modding system. Many of us have tested IV's games in the past. Things like that. However, when those things lack, the only proxy remaining is post count and forum membership duration.

That is not to say that someone with only a few posts cannot get into the closed beta -- it has happened before. But given two candidates with similar hardware, the forum vet will probably be selected over the newbie.

The term Veteran might be very vague (I don't consider myself one, but I wouldn't be able to clearly explain) but I believe the quote above proves that people who just registered because of the beta have a low chance of getting in. And unlike normal situations, I'm afraid post count does have some sort of meaning here.

lol De ja Vu for a 3rd time.....Anyway i guess post count does matter on here even though it shouldn't .....But anyway your not saying i just signed up for the beta are you ?

Why shouldn't it matter? Certainly, there are many things that are more important that post count (i.e. having gained IV's trust in another way, having special hardware, &c.), but having more than one or two posts indicates a couple of things. First, it indicates that a person really is involved in the community, and has a vested interest in helping out. It also indicates that a person has been following IV for a while, which means that they are more likely to understand what is going on. Furthermore, if a person has many posts (say, more than 25 or 50), it is possible to gauge their personality to some extent. Finally, who do you think is more likely to leak a beta? a forum member who has been around for several years, and has an interest in not being banned? or a complete stranger?

At any rate, it should be noted that when I applied for (and was accept into) the Darwinia phase 1 testing, I simply applied -- no posts to the forum or anything. In fact, at the time, I was still under the impression that Uplink, and subsequently Darwinia, were Ambrosia products, not IV products. So, not having any posts is not going to eliminate you from selection, but it is likely to decrease your chances.

QFT.

Actually I thought antixander was you, too, xander. But then again, we all know that shinygerbil's "lol im xander" is the truth. Essentially, 'xander' is just shinygerbil's sock puppet, I'm sure.

No matter what i say i think something might happen and sorry in advance if i just jabber on.

Well over the years ive been on many forums and have played many games. Usually on the forums there are people who have had Hundreds of posts and so many of them are just spam posts, agreeing with people, etc... Im not saying every single person on here with Hundreds of posts have done this, just speaking my mind and from time to time when i visited the forums i usually saw people helping each other out (hell ive even been helped on here a few times and helped a few ppl) ^_^.

On the beta leak topic.... I literally don't know how to respond to that since i could say so much. Hmmm... Well to tell you the truth overall i wouldn't fully trust anyone with a beta. Unless they signed a lil contract and had a online interview with them since i remember back when i was a mod for runescape (yes i said runescape dont laugh) There were Mods with tons of posts and they were always helping people out. But most of them turned there backs on the company and game and Sold there accounts on ebay and kind of messed the game up.Also remember when one of the mods was selling secrets to runescape 2 before it came out.

Sorry for jabbering on.

I think you would find a decent correlation between per-user signal-to-noise ratio, and veterans accepted into the beta. Of course, I can't be sure.

lol i know , i was just saying that in general. I still think they should have quick 2 minute interviews on vent/ TS . Always harder for a person to lie with there voice than with words.

Again just speaking my mind.

I agree (to some extent), but there would be a few problems with this approach.

First of all, setting aside 4-5 minutes for an interview with every person means a four-hour session for the interviewers. Second, not everyone is as fluent in spoken English as in written. Third, xenophobes who might otherwise be excellent testers are likely to fail an interview due to anxiety.

This is volunteering we're talking, not a job position. It would be kind of neat though

lol def agree. But I think Interviewing should be kind of a "last Resort" thing. Lets say they narrow down the applicants to about 60 or so and there having a hard time deciding, they could have interviews with those people (a long time i know) But it would help them decide on who to pick for this grand opportunity.

lol not sure how to answer the Xenophobes topic. Hmm they could be excluded from the interview if everyone agrees that they are a excellent tester.

I think their current set up is fine.

Hey, it's working!
