Come and Work for us!
Technically the Nintendo DS is not a Gameboy, it's a seperate product line. I think the reasoning behind this was that if the DS fell flat on its face, they could still continue the GB as a seperate product line.
However, whether we'll see any future Gameboy that isn't partly based on DS technology, I don't know. It seems likely that they'll consilidate their handheld lines after the success of the DS.

Indeed it is NOT a game boy, and does not intend to replace the game boy, in fact GBA Micro came out AFTER the DS.
The DS ( minus the cpu processing power ) is almost perfectly capable of playing a game such as "DEFCON" PROVIDED the "NDS" version be made in a very efficient manner.
The DS is capable of rendering 3D in a vibrant manner, and 2d in a very complex way. ( There are separate cpu handlers for the two screens. )
By the SOUNDS of it, the article wants it made on Windows Mobile, but quite honestly this would attract a rather small market ( even if it was thousands ) than the DS or the PSP would. ( PSP has no touch screen, so forget it
)
Fingers crossed that it becomes a Commercial NDS game.

"Surely you didn't mean to press that button just then did you?"
"No, nor will i disarm the nukes."
"Oh well, I will have my Fighters shoot them down."
"Sure you will."
"Oh NOES, ITS BEEN PATCHED!!!"

The brief is fairly non-specific as to what platform it's on - the Win/Mac executable it refers to is simply a prototype, after all. I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions about the DS's capability to run the game - it would not simply have to be very efficient, but also very different to its current form, as has been addressed in the past. That's not to say I'm not all for it, though!

Whilst we have created a design document to broadly scope some of the new features, we would expect the successful candidate to be creative and willing to provide their own game ideas and to point out potential flaws in our concepts as they become apparent.
This is a good sign.

I'd just like to point out that many newer PPC's have nearly desktop-class processors (520mhz to 625 mhz), A LOT more RAM than other portable devices (usually 64+ MB, as opposed to the DS's 4MB), VGA screens, and a few even graphics accelorator chips with dedicated video memory. Also, though I don't really know for sure, because I'm not a PPC programmer, It would make sense that they would be a lot easier to port to because they have a full OS, and the OS is very similar to Windows.
Did I mention that I own a PPC? (and I wish it were as new/good as the ones I mentioned above)
Still, dual screens brings up some interesting possibilities...
Just one more thought - If the game is written onto cartriges, how could you release patches? (unless maybe through special cartriges with PC-linker cables, like the homebrew people use...)
