Defcon Mac released! (+Windows Patch 1.4)

We are delighted to announce that Defcon has been released for the Mac OSX platform. This comes after many months of work in partnership with Defcon's exclusive Mac publisher, Ambrosia Software. Mac users can download the playable demo immediately from Ambrosia and give this game a try!

We have also launched patch v1.4 for Windows, in order to enable cross platform compatability between PC/Mac. Windows users should download the Latest Patch immediately from our website. Unfortunately v1.4 is no longer backwards compatible - it will not work with any previously released versions, so we need everyone to upgrade to v1.4 as soon as possible. The benefit is that once you've upgraded, PC users will be playing Mac users who will be playing Steam users and (very soon) Linux users as well. As a consequence of this we're expecting to see lots of "Incompatible" games in the server list, for at least a few days while everyone upgrades. This situation will sort itself out very quickly though.

Download the PC v1.4 Patch
(not for Steam users - you'll be updated automatically)

As well as Cross Platform support, the 1.4 patch also adds AmBX integration for those people lucky enough to own the hardware. Even we were skeptical when we first heard about this, but we're confident if you ever see Defcon running through amBX you'll agree its absolutely awesome. Turn out the lights and live that Dr Strangelove dream!

Note To all PC Beta Testers : please download the v1.4 patch released today. This is not the same patch as the Final Candidate we released on April the 12th.

Great! Now all Mac users, both of you, join the tournament.

Just kidding. This really is great news. Anything that helps Defcon get more players and hopefully more servers.

Too bad my key for the Windows version won't work. I guess I'll have to purchase Defcon again to be able to play on the Mac. :(

Thankfully I do not have to be administrator to install 1.4 patch. I know that I can just take installed and patched Defcon and it will work, but I do not have access to any windows PC as administrator, so I could not play with 1.3. (I am playing Defcon on PCs in school). Will you put here (or anywhere on your site) version, that does not have to be installed?

I'm not sure about that. I used to have all of the episodes and the Träumend/Ouvertüre on my PC (bit-torrent) but lost the ones I didn't transfer to CD when I last reinstalled xp (formatted everything first) D'oh. It's been a long time... since I've watched any of it.

I think I have it up to the last episode of the first season on CD.

xyzyxx had a birthday last month and didn't tell anyone. Now 21 years old.
A year and a month ago he challenged the forum to remember. . .
Now he too is in the Defcon Beta Tester credits. Woo Hoo!

Minus the 'woo hoo', this sounds uncannily like the text that fades in over a film trailer.
Regardless, are you the narrator, or do you just enjoy posting random snippets of information?

My introspective skills suck. I really have no idea how I sound. Yet another product of the U.S. TV generation I am.
I found new Mac Beta Tester credits in the Defcon Linux beta3 download. Maybe that's where the "woo hoo" came from.

I just enjoy posting.

Irregardless, if I could afford a nice Mac, Defcon would be the first game installed. :P

Hrm... read that last sentence very carefully:
A special DEFCON 'Collectors Pack' for the PC will also be available in retail stores from 8 June.

I wonder what that is all about?
