Defcon patch 1.2 Released

Postby Chris » Tue Dec 12, 2006 7:09 pm

We’re happy to announce the release of a new mod patch for DEFCON, which will make it easy for you to play on some of the fantastic mod creations we’ve been seeing here at Introversion over the past couple of months.

These maps completely change the look and feel of DEFCON, opening up entirely new gameplay scenarios, and bringing with them a whole new level of thermonuclear fun!

You can also check out the Introversion modding forum where fans have created a map editor with supporting tools to allow you to make entirely new maps, should you feel creatively inclined. Whilst you’re at it, be inspired by some of the best, and most imaginative mods so far at this Unofficial List, run by Zanzer.

Defcon MODs are packaged as ZIP files - they must be unzipped into your Defcon game directory, in a subfolder called "Mods". Once unzipped in the right place they will automatically show up in the Mod browser in-game (restart Defcon to reload the list)

If you are running Defcon through Steam, the update will be applied automatically. Install MODs by unzipping them here: C:\program files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\Defcon\Mods\

If you are not running through Steam, visit our Patch Download page to get your download. Install MODs by unzipping them here: C:\program files\Defcon\Mods\

Here are some of the best MODs we've seen so far:

Up until now the Australians have evaded the thermonuclear debate, peacefully sitting out of the daily genocide. Not anymore thanks to this new map.

Image
Ever fancied settling the score between England, Scotland and Wales? Now you can with thermonuclear fire.

Image
Think outside the box; take your nuclear vendetta into the realms of outer-space and knock your opponents out of orbit.

Image
The most surreal form of thermonuclear war yet; hack into each other’s cyber brains and blow them away!

Will we get ever the announced Linux version? Or is Introversion now just making games for the Windows platfrom?

It's been confirmed that both the Mac and Linux ports of Defcon are in development. They'll be ready when they're ready

Anybody else having problems applying/using the UK Map Mod? All of the other map changing ones are shown red in the mod list (and tagged as required by all users playing on a server using it) yet I can't get to work... I can get it to show up in the list, and I can activate it, but then the game just plays as normal. Other map modifications (e.g. Australia) work fine... Bug? Or just me?

One post is enough. Spamming the forums with your problem will not help, as shown by me complaining rather than helping.

Yeah, I had a problem, the directory structure in the mod file is screwed up. Just go into the UKMod directory, create a new directory called 'data' and move the two directories (world and graphics, I think) into the data directory.

I'm guessing they mean the browncoats (Independence) from the Firefly/Serenity universe. Awesome show/film.
