Defcon Signed Units Competition Results

Postby John » Wed Sep 06, 2006 5:47 pm

Congratulations go to the winners of the Defcon Signed Units Competition, who were randomly picked from 25 valid entries. They are:
  • Ross `Rosti` Meredith
  • Joakim `prohzen` Skjefstad
  • Evan `Darth l33t` Kaye
Thanks to everybody who tested Uplink, and well done to those who actually managed to finish it and get to the card. A special thanks to all who submitted bug reports which was, after all, the whole point of the exercise!

We found and fixed many problems and we continue to improve it. Therefore, although the competition has ended, please do keep trying out the latest patches.

We will be sending out the signed units along with the first units we ship.

P.S. The first person to submit a valid entry did so in under 1 day of the competition announcement!

I'll re-say the congratulations to the winners, I myself had a go of it and realised that I wasn't up to scratch ;)

did I misunderstand something? weren't you supposed to complete uplink, from beginning to end? You can't do that in a day. whoever did that, is beyond pro, veteran, elite and so on. It gotta be God. damn.

BTW, congratulations to the winners.

... You're kidding, right?
Finishing Uplink in less than an hour is pro.
Anything else is just... normal.

in an hour? whew, I gotta play some more. I believe I've been playing with my current agent for 2 months. (from I started, 'till I slowed down. Haven't played lately)

P.S. If the winners fail to collect I'll gladly take a copy off your hands.

gratulations to the winners!

But finishing the game in one day is not too hard:
Do smaller Missions until you can afford Log-deleter v4, Proxy & Monitor Bypasser and decypher.
Hack a Bank (admin) and note down all accounts& passwords
clean your traces
log into the different accounts until you either find an account with much money or with a transfer to another account with much money
hack that account and steal the money
buy trinity, upgrade all your software, ffw till the dead-agent email, do the missions.

Gratulations to the winners! :D

By the way, only 25 valid entries? I start wondering if I made it into those valid ones if there was so few of them. :)

Yeah. It would be good to see whether I even had a chance of winning.

A sequence I would try out if I could (ie if my CD drive still worked):

Increase loan, buy password breaker and log delete v4 only.
Access Test mission server, type user and pass, copy file, send email.
Access Uplink, for every mission talk to client and ask for full payment now until they agree, fast forward, repeat until reasonably rich.
Log out of game, log back in.
Go into every added system and cd usr; delete them all. More money!
Forget the copy missions, they're inconvenient.
Wipe out InterNIC.
Buy decent hardware and software.
Hack bank (even at Registered, your rank will now probably be high enough to destroy lives.)
Do storyline.
