Patch 1.42 released for Windows

Postby Chris » Fri Mar 10, 2006 5:17 pm

Today we have released patch 1.42 for Windows. If you run the game from Steam then the patch will be applied automatically - otherwise you can download it from our Support page.

This patch adds a new Difficulty setting to the game (which internally we had under the codename "Submission Mode"). Difficulty level 1 is standard, and it goes all the way up to 10. Higher difficulty levels makes the enemies faster and tougher, as well as making more of them to deal with. Enemy spawners like the Triffids, Egg layers etc will spawn new Virii at a faster rate. You can find this Difficulty setting in the Options window under "Other Options". Play on Difficulty 10 and experience Darwinia on Steroids!

We've also fixed some bugs:
- Problem which would cause a save game to crash on load, due to Squaddies being in transit (between Radar Dishes) at the time of the save
- Bug on the final level (Temple) which placed one of the enemy Spawn Points outside the Population Lock. This would result in more and more enemies spawning on the island - with no upper limit.
- A few other small bugs

We've also updated the German translation.

A full list of changes can be found here.

It's been a while since we released a patch for Darwinia but we are still committed to supporting it - and we have other updates in the pipeline. We hope you enjoy the new stuff!

theres no better testbed than the great public... i bet they decided that nothing in the patch massively broke the game so pushed it out to get a wider range of feedback. Those of us that tested it for a few days prior were the guines pigs to see if there was anything major broken....

I think its a good idea, but i hope more bugs will be looked at and fixed soon. And maybe the difficulty stuff adjusted a bit or tweaked.

No multiplayer?
Hope it's gonna be there in the next patch...

I'll have to have a go playing again with the difficulty up a bit.
Just curious, what level are we playing on in version 1.3, would it be the equivalent of 1 or middleish so people who find it too hard can make it easier?

Sorry if I make no sense, wanna get off to bed so I'm rushing.

Change it while on the Global Map. You can't change it from within a level.
