Apparently, I'm not a beta tester on this occasion because I was only 56.5% selectable! This is due to my low post count (because I hate you all) and because I have a 5900XT (because IV hate my computer, and by extention me)

So I guess everyone was right on this particular occasion! :P

You can thank NeoThermic for these pearls of wisdom by the way, please now all proceed to spam him with requests to know how selectable you were! Hopefully we can get him into trouble! \o/

I'm afraid you're all wrong, the selection for the new demo was random. The first 20 odd people were phase 2 testers who were given automatic acceptance, the remaining 80 odd people were picked randomly.

We do have a system for weighting people based on hardware specs and post count, but it was only ever used once - for the first 100 phase 1 testers.

It was random...?

Apparently my Taiwanese-Candadian-American computer setup didn't have any importance in this matter. :(

And so, most of the comments will stop at this post... Maybe.

Quite. It was a joke (would you really have that much persision on your %ages?, and would you really do a system like that? Thought not...), but I think TGF didn't get the right end of the stick.

Oh well ;)

If someone tells me something when I have no reason to doubt them, then I have a tendancy to believe them. Sorry for having put some sort of credence in the things you say :P

In my mind, only one end of a stick was provided - of course you'd have that 'precision' on percentages, and I wouldn't put it past IV to use this sort of system again, they have done before. Any clue you had hoped to give or dared to say to see if you could get away with it fitted quite happily as far as I cared, that being regardless of how you may have thought about it - which is apparently that it was fairly obvious.

Don't however mistake this post as me giving a shit about being tricked :P - I just wanted to provide some context for your joke, at least from my perspective, and 'oh, ok' still sums up my position on the matter.

Yeah, I also remember the script not doing so well... John was in #darwinia a few days later asking if anyone had MacOS 10.2.x.

That's how I got to be a beta tester; I wasn't originally one. Yay for broken stats!

Initially for the hardware testing round, we tried to select a set of testers that closely approximated our perception of what the common gaming hardware and operating systems were. Unfortunately this is a fairly difficult problem, because you have so many different variables to consider. We ended up trying a simulated annealing algorithm to select the set of testers. This worked fairly well overall. What tends to happen, however, is that the most obscure bugs occur on the rarer systems, which is why we had to get more Mac OS 10.2 testers on board to iron out a few of the more obscure bugs.

If possible, try to avoid reading above material.
It contains around 46% of idiocity and 72% of unlogical stuff.

Yeah, I remember that. I also remember that the ones you had weren't online as much.

I also remember that for some unknown reason, the bugs in 10.2 didn't affect either 10.1 or 10.3. Just 10.2.

And something about mipmapping. Heh.

Glad I could of help in that regard, really ;)
