go introversion!

I'm going to see how the lag works on seige clasic now (P.S. the new seige was a modification I made. it has a masterspawnpoint (isglobal=1) that sends the souls up instnatly.

Excelent! Excelent!

Now I'll have to replay the whole game for a 4th (and maybe 5th and 6th) time. :D

The mod fixes are going to be very nice. I'm going to have to get to work on my mod "Darwinian Winter". I have the story line written and I have notes on what the goals are for each world and how they'll link to each other. But I have to just sit down and start building those maps.

This is great news. Thanks to the entire Introversion crew.

- Optimisations made to Darwinian combat code. Should help during
big battles involving lots of Darwinians.

Will this help with the infamous Pattern Buffer / Biosphere crash bugs, or is it purely to make DG's fight better?

Both, I guess.

What I wanna see is DeeGees strafing and jumping from side to side to avoid lasers. :)

They do that at bit, as is. I am working on a mod that is very reliant on DGs (at least at first). However, to make things interesting, they are starting with wussy little lasers. They will fire before they are really in range. It is fun to watch a red DG and a green DG go one on one. They dodge around a bit, run in, fire, then run away until their lasers can recharge. It is really quite fun to watch.

Whee! Yay patch-ness and stuff!

This should help for the Darwinia Hard Mode mod, since I can't exactly do cutscenes without text.

It's not a big change: darwinia was origionally built as a multiplayer but they disbaled multi mode because of gameplay problems. or so i'm told.

It's not so much the code that would be the hard part (even though that's not been touched for over a year now), more like the gameplay and balancing issues that spring up when you try to transform the game from single to multiplayer.
Even if you have an idea of how the game should be in multiplayer, a lot of things usually need to change in order for the idea to function well, if at all. Many hours of practical testing are also required to ensure that there's no true winning strategy or exploitable bug, etc.
Basically, it's not really as simple as a single switch that turns multiplayer on.

Not publically, no. They must have played around with the multiplayer version of what was to become Darwinia, but back then the entire game was something very different than it is now.
Take a look here for more background on the way Dariwinia evolved, if you haven't already :P

martin: I beta tested the game :P I know why the MP was taken out and why. The fact that the quote from Chris on IRC saying that the code for it hasn't been touched since day 1 of production has been floating on the boards for a good 4 months now ;)

don't expect...

Postby martin » Sun Apr 17, 2005 8:12 am

you don't expect me to pay attention to what people say on her to you :-)?
only joking, sorry, I've missed that quote. I don't go on IRC either.

So is there any idea as to when multi will come out? Just my main game playing is on multiplayers.
