Darwinia reduced in price to £19.99

The future for IV has to involve console releases. We need an Xbox deal for Darwinia, and the way to ensure that we get one is to sell high volumes of Darwinia PC.
Whats that in the UK, shame sales were beinging to slow, please tell me you broke even at least. I'd hate a market that punishes people for works of genius like this.

I'll second that! But I reckon they'll only do an Xbox port, if at all - I'm guessing it's a lot more similar to Windows than GCN or PS2, not that I know anything about them really... I'd love to see Darwinia on all the consoles though - if anything, it'll (hopefully) boost sales!
All the best to IV, whatever happens

Wow...
Well, I have to admit. Consoles which are made purely (or almost purely) for games do produce mostly higher-quality and easier-to-control games. There are many PC games that I absolutely love, but usually, whenever something is devoted to producing one product (in this case, computers made solely for games) the product is usually higher quality.

I think it is a stretch to say console games are better than PC games. Console games are fundamentally different from PC games. Consoles are, currently, limited to very low resolutions because they use a TV as the display. This means that many games that make heavy use of text, like RPGs, are very hard to make for consoles and usually get dumbed down to simple hack and slash games. Second, without a mouse (most consoles use gamepads) control is very different. The mouse offers amazing speed and precision that no other controler as of now can match. Thus FPSs are generally dumbed down using some form of auto-aim (or they are hard to play). Games that work well for consoles are dumbed down shooters (ie GTA), fighting games, sports games, and platform/adventure games (ie Zelda, Super Mario). RTS games can do ok on a console as well, but the PC is still generally far superior for them. A PC can run any game better than a console (assuming the code is the same quality) as it has better resolution, better hardware, and better input options. However PCs cost about 10-30 times as much as a console, so there is that problem.
Yay price drop for new peoples! \o/
Boo lower income for Iv! >=(
Yay xbox deal! \o/ Btw, I have an xbox! Want me to test it?
Hint, hint.(How about PS2 too?).
Consoles and PC are very different, as Stews said (HI STEWS! LONG TIME NO SEE!).
PCs are pretty much the opposite of all those points (good for non-static hardware, bad cos of cost and hardware problems/configuration, etc.).
Yay for console vs PC arguement again...

- Consoles are good as they allow people who cant afford the (quite expensive) gaming PCs (£600+) to get a gaming platform(£40-£150 console).
- They are good cos they are stable (in terms of hardware being the same (or near enough) for all of that console), so developers can make games for them and know that the hardware problems aren't gonna be as bad.
- They are bad for being static hardware (new graphics cards aren't easily put into all the consoles sold, so graphics will only get better per generation of console, on average).
- They are bad cos people make games for them, and then try to port them to PC, usually unsuccessfully.

We dont stop playing cos we get old... We get old cos we stop playing.
I am sad to hear that you may not be making as much profit as you require from this game. The 2% of PC games sales probably stems from the fact that so many people copy PC games.
I never copy them myself, but I know several people who do. I have had many drunken (sometimes heated) discussions trying to convince them that copying is bad, and whilst they all agree with my arguments, they still copy anyway.
Their only justification is that games are too expensive, but they wouldn't be as expensive if people bought them, and even if they are expensive, you tend to get your moneys worth with games nowadays (not like the eighties).
Anyway, before I rant on about it, I'd like to say that I admire IV as the last of a dying breed.
It is a shame that Uplink isn't the type of game that can be converted to a console, as it would sell bucketloads. Maybe adapting it might be an idea.

Actually, a £300 PC will be about 10x as powerful as a £100 console (and no need for expensive addons and games are cheaper and it's more useful). The problem is that PC games developers (including IV) insist on developing for the newest hardware, while PS2 games are be churned out, quite profitably, for what is now ancient hardware. My advice to anyone on a budget right now is to get an iMac mini.
In any case, things have changed a lot since Uplink - I read a statistic recently that just 2% of last year's game sales in the US were for PC! The future for IV has to involve console releases.
AAAAAAARGH.
That means I have to get a console D:
Aside from the SNES.
Release a version of Darwinia on SNES cartridges!
