Registration now open for Linux beta

Postby John » Sun Nov 07, 2004 4:26 pm

Darwinia is now being ported to Linux and we would appreciate some help testing it. We will soon be starting the Linux beta test, which will be identical to phase1 of the PC and Mac beta tests. The goal is to test the demo level of Darwinia to check hardware- and Linux distribution compatibility.

In order to do this we need some Linux users who are willing to help us test the game. You will need either to be running either a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel in order to run Darwinia. If you have this and you wish to help, please go to our Beta Application page and sign up.

If you have already applied previously to be a PC or Mac beta tester, it is perfectly acceptable for you to resubmit your application with your Linux specs. We will select as many testers as we feel we need from the list of Linux applicants. Good luck!

Finally! I am really looking forward to this. I find the application form somewhat limiting. I lied about the speed, I have a 2Ghz Athlon64, but to rate it on Ghz alone is not much use.

I am also able to test native x86 and x86 under an AMD64 kernel.

I do hope all the people who are testing the windows version and just happen to have a linux install somewhere didn't just sign up without actually knowing how to do backtraces and basic debugging under linux.

I just signed up. It will be interesting, as I have a fairly unique setup at the moment. I don't have a working hard drive  But I am running a diskless linux distribution and am perfectly happy with it until Seagate releases the next gen 7200.8 Barracuda's (they supposedly shipped out from Seagate to retailers yesturday, but I still can't find one for sale yet).

In anycase, I still signed up. I also could put in my RAM ammount 2 Gigs was not an exact match, just >1 Gig :p (the RAM comes in handy, especially when you don't have a hard drive). I think it would be an interesting case study, don't you guys :D

You using a Knoppix distro? If thats the case won't you have a static OS and would have to create a new CD each time you get a some updates (which is frighteingly often for linux)?

Maybe he isn´t using a Knoppix derivate. Maybe he uses some kind of gentoo live cd.
I've signed up to, with many luck maybe I get in this time although I didn´t post much in this board till now.

Good luck everyone, we shall need it ;D
