Indeed.

I wonder how long it'll take for Darksun's comment to get so compressed that his handle changes to Blackhole? :D

We'll see.

Depends on how the browser renders it I guess.

Does post count really matter guys?

Post count matters, but only in a very minor way, as far as I am concerned. When trying to figure out if someone knows what they are talking about, I generally first look at when they joined. I figure if someone joined a long time ago, and they are still active, then they probably have not been driven off by the rest of the community, and are worth listening to. After that, I will look at post count, but anything about 50-100 seems about the same -- the person is active. If you look at the memberlist, there are only a handful of people with more than 100 posts -- out of 316 pages of users, only those people on the first five and a half pages have more than 100 posts -- that accounts for about 2% of the members of the boards.

I thought about that. Here's a quick graph (when reffering to "posts", this is the total of uplink, defcon and darwinia posts):

Total Members:
15782

Image

From the graph, only 266 out of 15782 members of this forum have more than 100 posts. It gets smaller as you go higher; only 42 of us have more than 1000 posts, and only 19 of us have more than 2000. 4 people have more than 4000 posts.

So, do posts matter? Not much when put like that :) It isn't how many posts you have, it is how loyal to the company you are, and everyone posting here is loyal to a degree.

Oh, and for the mathmatical here, 266 users accounts for 1.6854644531745025978963375997972% of the total...

Very nice. Now, could you switch the axes, log-scale it, and break it down by forum? Once you have done that, you might pick some nicer colors, and maybe break things down geographically, as well. Then, it would be interesting to see a linear regression to corelate total posts with time since joining, time between posts, length of user name, and eye color.

Let's get moving! Chop! Chop! :P

Sure!

Hmm?

xander wrote:break it down by forum?

Sounds like a good addition to the graph, why not?

xander wrote:Once you have done that, you might pick some nicer colors

Any suggestions?

xander wrote:and maybe break things down geographically, as well

That might be a bit hard to do!
