You do know he no longer has blue hair, right?

Well, I soon will, so you might as well keep welcoming the Blue-haired overlord.

Xander, up yours.
Ice, do whatever floats your boat.
Neo, <3.

I'm just gonna do the mature thing, start a blacklist and ignore morons and walk away from this trash talk.
I've avoided it thus far and I have no wish to return to it.
Neo, if you could please install the ignore mod, it would be appriciated.

Cheers and have a good day.

Now I KNOW that word's spelled wrong.

...

...

*ducks*

Honestly, I think I should apologize for the state this thread wound up in - if I had known what would have resulted from my one piddly little smart-assed comment, I would definitely have kept it to myself.

And Gravitron... why are you so angry at the world? A little less vitriol and people might take you seriously (and if you result to calling me names for that, then you've just proved my point).

Hey trickfred, you smell!

Also, 25 thousand dollars sounds like a bit much to give a game that's not only good *but* also successful in some dimention. $25000, that's what, from the raw steam price, 1250 copies of darwinia! Take into account IV only get like, 60-65% of the money from steam, and that's like selling 2000 copies! That's a good deal of copies for a small firm.

Were the other independant games so bad that they couldn't get a snifter of money, or some spangly praise, too? It just seems odd to reward the winners with money, and even more free press than the runners up get, when arguably they all need money and increased awareness to some degree (the biggest danger to a game and its dev team is, not that it ends up being awful, but that no one knowing it exists) - they should be promoting independant design by helping support as many promising companies as feasable.

OK, yeah, it's great IV won and all, and they certainly deserve it, but there are other companies out there who deserve recognition as well. Maybe the actual award show is nothing how it sounds, all I can find out about the festival seems to make out that the runners up get is a sour taste in their mouth.

Of course I smell, I have a nose just like anyone else. :Þ

I'm thinking to some degree the purpose of the monetary prize was to help an independant (read:poor) game development studio fund more development time of unique ideas, since they usually don't make as much money as the big studios. This would allow that studio to survive that much longer while working on their next oddball/creative idea. If you look at it that way, it explains why some people were grumbling that IV won, since IV is now making more money than before due to the Steam deal, and didn't really need the financial help as much compared to some of the other less commercially-successful (read:poorer) game studios (airline/hotel/booze tabs aside ;D ). It'd be like a rich guy's kid winning a scholarship - some people would whine he didn't need it, even if he earned it on his own with good marks.

I'm not saying that I agree with them - just that I get why some grumbled. But by their rules, Darwinia was indeed elgible for the award, and very deserving of recognition, commercially successful or not.

So, congratulations, and good luck next year with Defcon. :D

Search is fuxord. I tried to see all my posts, and it listed this one as one of mine, as well as other ones... Which is odd, as I didn't post it.

Perhaps bumping an old post, but I just now heard about the IGF win.

Congratulations! You guys deserved it. And you know, after watching the video of the acceptance speech, it actually makes me proud to have paid you guys cold hard cash for both Darwinia and Uplink.

Looking forward to Defcon, of course - no pressure ;)
