Fatal error: missing sound data files (sounds.dat) in /home/

Postby Capt2836 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 4:29 pm

Have isntalled Defcon to EEEPC 40 gb, original Xandros as per this forum, but when run the defcon executable get the following message:

Fatal error: missing sound data files (sounds.dat) in /home/user/lib

Maybe you are missing sounds.dat (You need to download it
separately from http://download.introversion.co.uk/defcon/sounds.dat
and install it in the /home/user/lib

Press <ENTER> to continue...

Being pretty new to linux I am not sure why I should get this message when others did not, nor how to install it to said location, which i suspect is accesible only from root.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

i am not sure how Xandos works, but try this:

open a console window and type:

Code: Select all

cd ~
wget http://download.introversion.co.uk/defcon/linux/defcon-v1.42.tar.gz
tar -xvzf defcon-v1.42.tar.gz
cd defcon-v1.42
./defcon

Many thanks - that got it running - but the mouse is "draggy" to the extent of being unusable - time to search the forum again.

Cheers

Hi Bert-the -Turtle

Thanks for your reply.

Got as far as typing the ./configure - whereupon a few lines of text which seemed to indicate that all was not well - no tool to compile with under $PATH seemed to be the gist of it.

Any ideas?
Cheers
