Linux Crashes

When i try to run Defcon in Ubuntu 8.04 nothing happens. the screen gos black and the whole computer crshes and i have to do the 6 seconds manual power off.
any ideas what might be wrong. (the icons show up under games and the installer produced no errors)

Open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories or Applications -> System I think), type defcon, and paste any output here.

I don't think this will be of much use if the screen goes black and the PC freezes :)

Problems like that are *always* problems with X11 or your drivers. Are you running a fancy 3D effects desktop thing? If so, disable it. They still don't go too well with games.

i got it
i turned off compiz and ran defcon with a sudo command
