Installing and getting the full version in Ubuntu 8.04

Postby DOS4dinner » Thu Jul 24, 2008 9:18 pm

I am rather new to Linux as a whole, but I was wondering how I can install the game in Ubuntu 8.04. I already downloaded the demo, I just have no clue how to install it, or if that stickied installer would work. Also, I have the Windows version with its key. Can I use that to upgrade the demo to the full version?
Thanks in advance.

Yep, just run the installer. To install it system-wide, use

Code: Select all

sudo sh ./defcon-linux-1.42-final.run

(The sh bit may not be required for you, it depends on how you downloaded it)

It says it cannot find the file. Do I need to extract it to a folder somewhere and run the command while in that folder (from the terminal, of course)?

Umm, that depends what you downloaded :) I was under the impression you fetched the automatic installer script stickied in this subforum, the instructions were for that, and of course you need to be in the directory you downloaded the file to.

If you have the other download (from here: http://www.introversion.co.uk/defcon/downloads/ ), then you need to extract it, yes. Then, IIRC, no installation is required, you can run the game directly from the extrated directory.
