Linux + Steam key

Postby Panacea » Fri Jun 08, 2007 5:06 pm

I was wondering if it was possible to use the key I got from buying Defcon off of Steam on my linux partition with a non-steam downloaded version of Defcon, or should I have to buy a brand-new copy of the game in order to use it on Linux?

Transferring the authkey from the Steam Defcon directory to the Windows standalone Defcon directory allows it to be played using the standalone version. You might try transferring this file to your Linux install. I wouldn't count on it working, though.

EDIT: A more thorough explanation of the process used within Windows over here.

It should work -- you should be able to use the same key. However, be aware that Steam keys expire once a month, so you are going to have to boot Windows/Wine to run Steam to get a new key at least that often.

Or you pay to get a single key from introversion :)
