XXL Debriefing

Postby DeafCom » Thu Oct 18, 2012 4:20 pm

So I hope you all have a good internet connection before starting to read...

...here we find strange player names: It is Turq cake in Russia allying with Red cake in Europe against Yellow Cake in Africa allying Stanby in Asia. Yellow Cake reveals to be Dävid instead, as he's using an AE name. This player's identity is one of the few things remaining constant in this game:
Image
Image

Everything is more or less normal. Joint silos in scandinavia and in south arabia/Somalia. Sea battle in the atlantic and scouting fighter from arctic CVs.
Image

Lot's of nukes are sent to eastern Russia. Just to remind you all: Also Russia is participating in the nuclear test stop treaty...
Image

Two fleets in atl...
Image
.. I mean no more fleet in atl.
Image

Lots of microing, bomber beams, sub-launches, etc.
Image

e.g. this sub launch of Dävid is very brave. However, the marked nuke of Red cake manages somehow to hit only one single sub (which was empty but one nuke left, btw). How did you do that?
Image

Things get more serious. The first silos are under attack.
Image

The silo survived with two nukes left which are spit out.
Image

To give you an impression about what's happening.
Image
Image

The first (and only) turquise silo is targeted here.
Image

Very nice chat protocol: "Cities, cities, cities." You see the two nuke glows in the arctic?
Image

Then, there follow are geography lesson.
Image

Furthermore, it's important to discuss what the hell a "CV" is...
Image

Dävid starts thinking about his ally's real name.
Image

While the northern areas uncover their identity.
Image

My favourite comment: "I thought they were yours"
Image

But why the hell is Yellow Cake (=Europe) targeting silos at this stage? Let's see if this pays back.
Image

Schizo!
Image

....and the winner is:
Image

Synthetic and Yellow cake (playing in turquise) win by 1 point!
Incredible. I would say: lucky, man!
These crazy identity changers. One thing remained open: Who is Standby?

Summary: If you find a guy on servers playing like a pro named like a pro, it might be a pro. Drives one mad.

Hey there DeafCON,
Glad you enjoyed it!

1 Point! I was livid!

Standby is certainly an odd one, but we did well. Terrible to think if those fighters had just managed to nail 1 sub it would have been ours.

..."would have"!

Yeah felt really nooby at the point of "oh I thought they were yours." Interesting however how to take out a group of subs like that. Note how the CVs are very effective from a range...to close in and the subs gobble you up. Certainly learn more for the next time.

As always YELLOW and SYNTHETIC were a formidable pair!

GG.

Standby really needed to be more aggressive in that game. He had half of his subs sitting in the Pacific doing nothing the entire time I was spectating. His bomber waves were tiny, when they were waves at all. It was frustrating to watch.

And you should have insisted that he dump all of his subs immediately, from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. You know, the standard move for Russia in that set up. :)

Thx for the tip, I'll do that later ... currently, there's too much to do in real life. I not even have time for playing :(
