You're just launching dedcon like that, probably, and not telling it what recording to load. What operating system are you using? On Windows, a simple doubleclick on the .dcrec file should take care of everything.

That's an odd new one. How is the first error message presented? A message box? Does a terminal window even open up (black background, light grey text)?

Hi Bert,

Thanks for the prompt reply, much apreciated.

I have a Windows OS.

Small progress - my bad: I got to have the DCREC file in my DEFCON installation folder (did not have it there before) when opening.

By the way, I am following these instrucitons from the FORUM:

"How to watch recordings:

1. Go to http://dedcon.net/ and download the latest version of the program.
2. Install Dedcon.
3. Download the recording(s).
4. Open(Double-Click) the recording file(*.drec), which should now have a file association with dedcon. A black text box will pop up with the names of the players, and the pre-game chat log.
5. Leave Dedcon running, and open Defcon. In the server list, you will find a green server called 'playback'. Enter it to watch the recording! Sometimes it doesn't open right away, so just hit refresh until it shows up."

I have done steps 1-3 no problem.

At step 4 though, when I open the DCREC file it will open DEFCON directly, no black text box, and in the server lobby i will see a green 'Dedicated Game Server' (have to open DEDCON first otherwise cant connect to server from the lobby). I guess I will be where blokeee was when he submitted his request on this forum.

I guess the problem is that my DCREC file does not open a black text window but DEFCON instead. When I open DEDCON before-hand (to be able to connect to the green server) a DOS window opens with info regarding key authentication etc. only, no player or game info.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,
beerde

Ah. You somehow made a file association yourself: you made it so that .dcrec files are opened with DEFCON. This shouldn't happen. Reinstall dedcon and try again, that *should* fix the association.

And no, you usually don't need to place the recordings in any special place, and you don't have to open dedcon beforehand; that just starts a regular game server with vanilla settings, which is what you see in the browser.
