Here We Go Again

Postby - Tobias - » Sat May 09, 2009 6:32 am

As in my previous topic on this sub-forum - 3 Bombers on 1 Carrier !!! - (http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon/viewtopic.php?t=6888) - I now have another, related, incident to report.

This happened in a 2v2 multiplayer game, within the countdown period (same as previous incident). And the good news is that I have screenshots and there must be a recording (but I forget which server it was). The game ended approximately 30 minutes ago.

Here's what happened:

1. I had only three nukes left, one each on three bombers, all on the same airbase.
2. I targeted each one on a different South American city, directly from the airbase.
3. I look away to check the other action, look back and see only two nuclear bursts instead of three. Odd, but maybe a fighter got one.
4. Then, however, I notice that one of the cities I originally targeted is highlighted. I check the orders and trace the targeting back to the airbase. Well now, I ask myself, why didn't that bomber launch? So I look at the airbase, and it's showing fighter status!

5. Now I'm confused. The airbase should be showing bomber status. But, there must be a bomber on that base somewhere! I open the airbase menu and all it shows me is fighters!
6. I turn on "nukes", and the box is on that airbase! "Nukes" says there is a nuke there, my nuke counter says I have one left, but the airbase menu shows no bombers or nukes.

7. So this time, it seems, rather than in/on a carrier, my loaded bomber (which I know was there at one point), just disappeared!
8. It was the very same South American city as the previous incident!

Now I'm wondering if it's my copy of the game, is there something "special" about this city, or just what?

Maybe there's a rift in the space-time continuum just above it?

almost correct.
If you look carefully, the flight path of the bomber actually takes it over the Bermuda Triangle.
Clearly the game writers have taken this into account.

OK. So you joke with me. But now I'm curious. So I Google Macapa. It's exactly on the equator. Now I'm totally weirded out.
