Achille's Heel
With the end of my vacation just a day away and with my brother out on a date I decided once again to take advantage of his internet and play Defcon online.
This game was against Achilles, he was Asia while I was Russia. I set up my silos around Moscow, I knew it would expose them but I felt it necessary to try and protect myself since Russia is so open to Asian attacks. I put a diversionary fleet in the pacific and managed to sink a couple carriers with it, and I also placed all my subs into the pacific. My carriers went into groups of four (tighter bomber launches) above Russia.
I couldn't see any of his silos, but my recon aircraft over India met a hail of SAM missiles so I figured he had put all his eggs into one basket. I launched all of my bombers (minus those needed to hit forward radar) in one big bunch and decided to hit India from a North-North East direction. I hit his radars and then sent in the rest of my bombers, aiming their nukes at the ocean well beyond India since I would have to scout the target first, meanwhile a sub group hit from the pacific to draw his attention. By this time he was pounding my silos with subs and bombers, but I figured that there wasn't much I could do about that and focused on my attack.
As I approached India and began to take fire I launched about seven or eight nukes at some distant targets and quickly told those planes not to turn around. His SAMs then ignored my bombers, focusing on the missiles, allowing my to get within scouting and striking distance. While his SAMs were distracted I located his silos, he had decided to use an upside down pyramid shape (three along the top, then two, then one). I launched my nukes and turned back, managing to take out three silos and heavily damaging two more, as well as destroying two airfields. As soon as the bombers were reloaded I finished off the last three silos, and was happy to see that his initial attack had only taken out two of my own silos while damaging one.
It was a good game, had he put a radar on the leading edge of his silos he probably would have wiped out the attack before I could get close enough to hit him. But since I could launch all of the missiles from virtually on top of his silos the game quickly turned to my favor.
Now I'm off to clean my gun...
