Really, really close...

Played an interesting game tonight, acting under the cover of another name. I have noticed that you can find some real good players who aren't that well known, so I searched a little and found "Nuke This" (which might also be someones undercover identity ;) )

We started the game quickly, no chatter in the lobby. Once the black screen dissapeared and the world unfolded before myself I saw my worst nightmare: North America (me) vs South America (him). I made a quick decision not to throw my force at his, and take the pain that was gonna hit me from the Mexican coast. Instead I decided to place the majority of my force in the Atlantic, with the intention of doing a brute-force recon mission with 9x5 fighters into South America. As early as Defcon 1 he launched a full blown attack which obliterated my major cities, but my silos stayed safe since I placed them out of the range of Mexican carrier/fighter recon missions.

In turn, my recon mission sliced into South America, discovering 4 of his silos, 3 airfields and his major coastal radars. I had already lost 6 subs in the pacific (doh...) and decided to send my other 6 back from their Sao Paolo mission into the North Atlantic. Once I had my pieces in place I launched a massive fighter wave from my four airfields, tugged away in Maine next to my silos. I also launched my carrier bombers towards the airfields and then turned all of them together in a massive tidal wave, aiming at his radars and airfields. As I surfaced my set of subs, his third wave of pain hit my cities and brought the death toll upto 90 million. I wasn't sure anymore if I would be able to catch up, since he had emptied his nukes from 9 carriers, 8 subs and airfields into my cities and had also destroyed one of my silos.

Once I was sure that I had obliterated his defenses I startedf emptying my remaining airfield nukes and carrier nukes into his cities. Afterwards I flipped my silos open, sprayed and prayed. With 15 minutes left I was about five points down, and suddenly four bombers appeared near my silos coming from the east coast. Yet, my prayers were answered and he made the mistake of shooting at my silos instead of my cities, with 2 minutes left my last nuke crashed into his population centres, giving me a narrow 89/88 victory.

Definetly the most intense game I have played in a while. Thanks to "nuke this" or whoever might be hiding behind the name ;)

hi, good game caranthir. I saw you change your name in the lobby so i knew it was you from the start, and i had some idea what to expect. North america vs south america is very biased in south america's favor i think, as i can hide and protect population and you can't protect population.

I'd say my two mistakes during the match were not putting enough navy in atlantic (the fighter range from mexico DID hurt a lot) and secondly, yeah those bombers at the end. I was hoping they'd cut down your nuke supply giving me the edge but cities would have been better (maybe??, i did trade 4 nukes for 12 of yours)

Seeing as you went far in the back i wanted to put all my force into attacking cities and get to the victory timer fast (i destroyed your silo hoping it would trigger the timer). My lack of force in atlantic gave you too easy an access to my silos. All mistakes i can learn from though, great game.

If i were playing NA i'm not adversed to placing directly up front, it definatly helps you get air superiority, and can make the difference winning at sea. We didn't have a huge navy battle in the end though.

EDIT: you'll also notice ive been playing since last nov, and i'd consider myself experienced. I tend not to use the forums much though. It's a pretty shit forum.

Your bombers hit the silos about ten seconds after the last nukes were fired, it was very very very close. I was most afraid that you were gonna scout with bombers under the cover of nukes to distract my silos, since I was notoriously low on fighters and my airfields were very far back. What I definitely should've done, was some serious nuking with airfields onto your Mexican carriers; but, as you said, there's always stuff to learn ;)

See you soon hopefully!
