Game Defriefing: Xocrates vs Hyperion

Postby Hyperion » Sat Jun 16, 2007 9:00 pm

Another one from me :D i know i know i tend to be writing some big debriefs and in numbers of late but i'm enjoying writing debriefs  even the ones i lose.

Setting Up.

So my partner has been quite kind and given me time to play :D , hehe, maybe because she knows i have to live with her family for 2 weeks starting tomorrow :? so i was looking for games, but go figure, no one is around  wanted to spectate Peace and Love in her game against a demo player, but i didn't want to synch for that many in game hours :? . Played 2 demos who both dropped :( . Played and beat MVPE again and then tried to play 'Sailormoon' but something happened to my server :? in defcon 4 and i had to drop (kept a screenshot), Xocrates was spectating and followed me into my next server. Persuaded him to participate and not just spectate as there was no one joining

Defcon 5/4.

Xocrates - NA
Hyperion - EU

I didn't like this set up :? , i was thinking i'd get destroyed with such close waters  and myself not being able to navigate :? HOWEVER, i took initiative and divided my forces...Defence/Offence/Stealth. I placed subs along the coast of SA in the reach of cities, put subs above New York, sent subs over NA to hit his silos and kept some back to nuke his fleet if he rushed my coast.

I sent my offensive force of 8 carriers (2x4) down between Africa/SA to make horizontal bomber runs over SA and up on NA  he never noticed these until it was too late and threw bombers at them...at carriers full of fighters

Defcon 3/2.

Scouting from Xocrates  my battleships took care of most  . I emptied all bases of bombers just behind my battleships but it was too late :( , he was already rushing my coastline towards the end of Defcon 3. He saturated the skies with fighters and hit most of my base bombers but at the expense of his battleships :P .

Thinking he'd rush me and scout me i set all silos in deep territory and left UK empty of units but 1 base.
I set off my SA bomber waves waiting for defcon 1.

Defcon 1.

He started nuking my battleships with some success :? i retaliated by hitting every bomber i could find and with a bit of ocean nuking of my own. Using my subs behind my fleet also.

I emptied my 3 furthest silos to distract his AA fire from my SA coastline subs and SA land based bombers heading upwards...i lost almost all of those bombers :? and those coastline subs but it was worth it...i determined the position of his silos and with my stealth subs moving steadily above NA...i was prepared

Losing all my base bombers hit me hard :( ...limiting my ability to nuke in mass, most of my carrier bombers gone also...i had to rely on the few bombers i had left, my stealth subs above NA and my 3 silos remaining...i placed all my carriers around E.U to extend radar range and filled them with fighters. Sure enough he launched 3 dense bomber waves from different angles simultaneously, i lost my Iceland radar/airbase but i turned those bombers into sunken wreckage :D god bless my fighters.

Feeling confident he had no bombers left i launched all bombers over Greenland ready to rain down hell from above and decided to call his bluff...i opened my remaining front 3 silos and let 3 nukes out each and prepared for incoming bombers (none arrived, they were ALL gone, hehe :D )...he then did what i was waiting for...opened ALL 6 silos...my 3 subs above NA all fired and destroyed 5 of 6 silos (id used the game speed advantage, he was on setting 3 so i hit back to 3 and didn't give him chance to hit my subs  ...he didn't, they survived up there the whole game :) ), i put my silos back on AA mode as soon as his opened and he scored limited points, i lost 1 or 2 silos.

All his nuclear forces depleted i reopened my silos and finished the game :) then he went for dinner. Fried fish.

A fun, tight and fast game.

Aye, it was a really good game.

Knowing Hyperion to be a really good player, I tried to get naval dominance as soon as I could. So I made agressive advances towards Europe while trying to take out as many units as I could.

I admit, I was lucky on at least two occasions. The bomber/sub strike coming from SA was detected early since I was launching bombers in preparation for a strike, they took out the subs and fighters from airfields and carriers took out most of the bombers. The second occasion was when Hyperion launched his bombers over Greenland towards the end. By that time I had several bombers moving towards the UK, but since they would not make it, I dropped the nukes on top of the incoming bombers and thus reduced drastically whatever damage they might have caused (at least, I hope they were loaded).

When defcon 1 hit, I was forced to back out with my fleet due to incoming nukes. Hyperion dealt a small but decisive blow on my naval forces, having sunk perhaps 2-3 of my subs. In fact my subs and bomber strikes were all very ineffective during the whole game. I'm unsure if I managed to deal any damage with bombers (hyperion had a great fighter network) and my subs managed to take out the radar and airbase in iceland and two radars in portugal and spain and perhaps a couple of hits in manchester.

Hyperion used his carriers near SA and Africa to basically deal the final blow in my bomber force, so I could only rely on my silos to win the game (I was doomed :( ). With my remaining carriers and all the fighter I could gather, I set off to scout whatever I could of europe and hopefully find his three remaining silos.

I was successful in this, and as I expected he launched his last nukes. Having very little I could do (by now I no longer felt I could win) and since two of my silos had been hit and only carried 5 nukes each (I'm not sure if he targeted them, but I believe it was due to nukes being taken out on top of them) and not even had the hopes of taking out his silos.

I launched, there was not much more I could do. I targeted 5 of his silos in the hopes of getting a least a safety region that I could nuke. I take out 2, but ironically the two that least served me :? Having 5 of my silos been taken out in the meantime, very few nukes that weren't targeted for silos were launched and from those only a very few hit. All my remaining fighters had been moved to my carriers so there was nothing I could do about hyperion's subs above canada.

Yup, thats about what happened...unfortunatly my greenland bombers were loaded  and i didn't intentionally hit those silos, they were miss-clicks with my silo nuking :D lucky ones it turns out.

Im apparently very good with this tactic, lol, having taken out a silo in Ace's game without knowing where it was :?

You've all been warned! your silos are not safe!
