I was just spectating a game between three players, one DEMO, one that seemed like a newer player, and then this guy...
He had subs going to both the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Mexico. One of the spectators said something like "Hey, don't cheat, sending subs to Italy is cheating!"
Well, it was probably the first time ever, but the guy actually tried to call them back, but of course unless you know the trick you can't just click anywhere and have them go back out. So he tried with futility to wrench them free, trying to send them here, then there...
Unfortunately Russia was both the DEMO player (so he didn't know you could just nuke near the tip of Italy and be done with it), and he had also left the game by the time... Our "Honest Abe" finally gave up and decided just to launch.
None of those nukes hit their target, which just goes to show that just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean it's the best strategy.
The whole game was weird though, large swatches of it were played at 20x speed... I get the feeling the two newer players weren't as up on the finer points of not getting creamed by someone with no tactics, so it was painful to watch the subs that red had sent to the Gulf of Mexico. They were parked right next to a radar when they surfaced, with an airbase not to much farther away. But all the subs survived their launch and beyond because it was all played at 20x.
Red won. Boo.
