Peace And Love v JESUS, Round 2

Postby Church » Wed Jun 13, 2007 9:48 am

This is the second match between Peace & Love and JESUS. This turned out to be another intense affair with some virtuoso naval maneuvering.

Default game mode and scoring, default cities, 200 population

Peace And Love: Africa
JESUS: NA

(same as the first match. Haven't seen that happen often)

Defcon 5

P&L sets up a Feud-style silo setup in central Africa east of Kinshasha, with two airbases to the northwest, one to the northeast, and one to the southeast of the silos. while JESUS sets up silos around Michigan up into Canada in two rows of three, with airbases to the east.

Africa places all 12 subs individually very close together in the Indian, and immediately sends them heading eastward towards the Pacific. A lone carrier is in the Indian, and another is just south of the Horn.

NA has six subs in the Pacific in two groups of three along with two battleships and two carriers. Six subs are placed near Africa's northwestern coastline with 10 battleships and 10 carriers in the Atlantic (five carriers are near Florida, five between Canada and Greenland)

Defcon 4

Africa finished up naval placement, setting up another gunline with battleships along Africa's northwesstern coast, right on top of the six NA subs already lurking there. Six carriers are placed to the south of the gunline, and another group of four carriers is to the extreme south heading west.

Defcon 3

NA subs near Africa start pinging which proved to be effective in breaking up the gunline. Africa counters by sending some carriers in anti-sub northward toward the southernmost subs in the area. Both sides launch aircraft at each other as Africa loses a couple of carriers but get a couple of subs in return.

Defcon 2

NA launches carrier-based fighters and bombers to battle naval forces. Air battle in the Atlantic intensifies as Africa responds by scrambling fighters/bombers and the ships temporarily withdraw.

Defcon 1(All times are approximate)

The air battle continues even after Defcon 1 hits. By the time the dust settles on the pre-nuclear festivities, Africa's gunline is long gone (only a couple of battleships survived; they are near the southern tip of SA), and NA has an overall numerical advantage in terms of naval forces in the Atlantic. Africa's 12 subs are northwest of Australia by this point, and they are all pinging away. Three pinging NA subs heading for the Indian are only a few minutes away from a watery grave as the next time I checked, the three subs were gone. Africa has its last two battleships and a carrier going around the southern tip of SA about to meet a NA carrier, 2 battleships, and three subs in the Pacific.

0:40:00 : NA launches land-based bombers southward while attempting to inflict more naval casualties with SRBMs from bombers.

0:56:00 : NA turns three bombers towards Africa as the two small groups of ships engage in a small skirmish in the southern Pacific just east of South America. The two African battleships are dispatched and the carrier follows shortly thereafter. NA at this point scores the first points with a nuke hit on Freetown. The two other SRBMs launched are aimed at a group of four interceding carriers. Africa's 12 subs deal with the three NA subs somewhere north of Australia and continue towards the NA/SA western coasts.

1:20:00 : NA has some more tac-nuke fun near Spain/Portugal, targeting carriers, though as I recall, they were able to move before being hit.

1:32:00 - 1:45:00 : Africa places three carriers in anti-sub in a blockade. An SRBM eliminates an African carrier located near the UK. At this point the exchange stops as both sides become very deliberate in their actions.

1:58:00 : Africa's subs are still rolling along in the Pacific. The subs are now in two seperate groups, one of five and one of seven, both groups still heading west.

2:09:00 : Africa is well into a land-based bomber launch in an attempt to clear the ocean of NA's navy. two bombers attempt carrier but both miss. The bomb run as largely ineffective and many bombers were lost.

2:40:00 : NA's Pacific carrier encounters African subs near Los Angeles. One gets a couple of nukes away that are stiopped by AA fire. NA unloads a single sub at Cairo, and all nukes hit. The one carrier in the Pacific ends up decimating the entire group in the Pacific. Three nukes are fired before all the subs are taken out, scoring hits on LA and San Francisco.

3:20:00 : Africa launches all silos and starts a two-wave bomb run (one group of 11 bombers and another group of 14). Air defenses stop many of the incoming nukes, and many bombers are stiopped before they are able to launch. Dying nukes end up scoring a couple of hits on silos.

4:05:00 : Africa's silos are fully expended. P&L has a lead in points (JESUS 16:108 P&L), but NA's nukes remain largely unfired. At this point there is a considerable amount of naval maneuvering. I'm sure I missed a lot of details.

4:45:00 : NA subs are moving into position (three are near the Horn heading towards Madagascar, another is northwest of Africa)

5:35:00 : Two more NA subs are joing the lone sub that was northwest of Africa. Four carriers are lining up just north of the subs.

6:00:00 : NA launches 7 carrier-based bombers targeting silos, which is mostly stopped by the AA fire from the silos. A few nukes targeting African cities hit, causing the score to be a bit closer (JESUS 33:100 P&L). Another lull in the action at this point as both sides are transferring aircraft from land bases to carriers.

7:50:00 : NA makes an attempt to take out Africa's remaining carriers without success. Africa does fire bomber nukes to the south but all NA naval forces are north. Africa then resets the carrier defense while NA temporarily withdraws.

8:38:00 : NA makes another run at the carriers. Again, Africa's carriers prove too elisive for the NA atrtack.

9:02:00 : African counterstrike eliminatestwo NA battleships and a sub. NA nukes manage to hit the city of Accra and one carrier (JESUS 35:99 P&L)

10:20:00 : NA launches another attack on Africa's carriers with fighters. Africa responds with its own fighters and thus we have a major air battle just west of Kinshasha. No clear advantage is gained by either side when the battle ceases and NA again withdraws.

10:53:00 : NA opens up its silos at Africa's radar and silos. When the initial impacts occur, NA launches its remaining subs. The vic timer starts around 11:15. The subs target mainly cities and they end up tilting the score.

Game Time: 12:02:11 - Final result:

I think this is the longest duel I have witnessed since I started playing. What impressed me about this game was how both sides were able to effectively utilize their naval forces.

Well-played game

Take Care
