The Ping Switcharoo.

I thought I'd share a trick in my final internet hours for a while. Going offline tomorrow. (definitive  )

when in an alliance and your allies see where you have pinging subs, f.ex in a barrier or to block certain entry points, doubling subs is a great way to prepare for a stab or counter strike if someone shoots at you. I have won several diplo games with this subtle move.

In diplo I usually use most of my subs as defensive tools to control my waters, but as the game progresses the dynamics change and many times your "good ally" wants to bump you. Or you want to stab your neighbour at exactly the right time.

What you need (for each ping): 2 single subs. Preferably the one you are doubling with is empty...

In this screenie I was allied with Asia as Africa and positioned a ping block in Indonesia from the get go. The game progressed and I had 2 subs nearby, 1 by Bombay and one inbound to double the Indonesia one. I kept the empty inbound one on passive and kept pinging the full one. Once I had them doubled I started pinging the empty one and switched the full to passive and sent it to Hong Kong. If you want to do it perfectly, start the active countdown before you switch off the original. When 20 secs left on the "new" ping, turn off the old one and VOILA you have made the Ping Switcharoo.

With only 15 mins on the victory timer Asia was on top and I launched silos at India and Arabia plus the 2 subs by Bombay and the "switched" one by Hong Kong. Won by 5 points or so... Just executing the manouvre is exciting in itself. Good old fashioned devilry

LOL
That's really going far in setting up and maintaining a smoke screen but must be an action most don't anticipate ;)
