Good alliance and lucky win

Postby bert_the_turtle » Wed May 23, 2007 6:53 pm

After a less glorious game with Nuke and Omnicide and three others (I failed to place carriers and most battleships, my silos were eliminated by Nuke's subs I could not get rid of without the navy, all that saved me from going negative were my fully intact and effective subs, thanks to some recon done by my ally Omnicide), the three of us met again and allied against new enemies. Nuke was EU (again), Omnicide was Russia, I was Asia (the two of us had switched places). Enemies were Donato in SA, iain in Africa and FocFT as NA.

Defcon 5: I place my radar, silos go to India, three airbases too, the third airbase goes further east.
Defcon 4: I see Africa placed most of his fleet into the Indian Ocean, right next to my silos. I place my stuff right outside his radar range and prepare to launch bombers. Three subs go to the Indian for a quick strike on northeast Africa, three go on their way around Africa, planning to hit south Africa or maybe Kinshasa. The rest of the subs go east for America. Russia places six carriers to go for the Atlantic and the rest into the pacific.
Defcon 3/2: Bombers launch and wreck most of Africa's fleet. He withdraws them a bit, but no use. He launches some fighters, my silos take care of them, some bombers get hit. Europe's fleet, except for his subs, is eliminated quickly. I think the subs launch later at NA without much success, but I didn't see them.
Defcon 1: While I've got my bombers in that general area, I tell them to hit on Cairo, some installations and other cities in the northwest of Africa. And nuke Africa's fleet. Africa surfaces what seems like all of his subs in the Indian, they don't survive for too long, but land some hits on India. I surface my subs as well under figher cover from the airbases, they help the bombers.
Donato, meanwhile, fires many subs at my unprotected eastern cities. I forgot to leave a bomber or two there for protection, that's what the airbase there was for.
With Africa's eastern fleet gone, I move my fleet south, hit southern Africa with my bombers (no radar on Madagascar). I launch my silos (one of them took a hit during Africa's sub attack) at NA. Hmm, either, he didn't place any silos, or my allies have taken care of them without touching the cities. I won't complain either way :) More of Donato's subs surface as I launch, but this time, a bomber is nearby, and he only manages to destroy one silo and does not significantly damage my attack or defense.
Donato also launches his SA silos, they're all in the south (the order of things may be off here). My subs for Mexico are in position and flatten it. Omnicide joins in, but I was faster.
I've got all carriers full with bombers and nukes for 1.5 runs left, as well as six subs, three in the Pacific, three in the Atlantic. I move all of that into position to hit SA and do so without resistance. Omnicide joins in with his other subs. The silo defenses there had insufficient radar coverage, it seems. I spend the rest of the game hitting bits of Africa with my leftover land bombers and SA with my bombers.

All in all, a lucky win. I took Africa before my allies had a chance, and apparently the rest of the navies mutually sefl-destructed. Defenses of my enemies were weak when I hit them. My allies were kind enough not to backstab (not that it would have mattered much, the second half of the game was basically navy-only for me) and not too competent at hitting cities.
