Cheaters Never Prosper

Postby xander » Sat May 19, 2007 7:00 pm

So, bert_the_turtle approached me on IRC a bit ago, offering to demonstrate his cheating tactics. It was enlightening. He surfaced my subs at inopportune moments, switched my silos modes around, tried to get me to nuke my own silos, got me to nuke my own cities, &c. Very interesting. However, I still beat him. Nya! :P

The game started as normal, I as SA, he as Russia. I sent a bunch of sub to Russia, he put most of his fleet in the Pacific (I think). I followed the subs with several carriers. At Defcon 1, my subs all surfaced, and started taking fire from bombers. I used my carriers to take out the bombers, and lost only four subs. I finally got to Russia, and used my carriers' fighters to scout. He had placed most of his silos near Moscow, so I took them out with subs and bombers.

Meanwhile, he was switching all of my silos to launch mode, and attempting to bomb my airbases and cities. I switched them back almost immediately (much to his surprise), and managed to limit the damage (though there is still the mode switching time penalty). Figuring that switching modes was going to occur until I was dead, I decided to launch all of my silos, relatively blindly, hoping that his silos would be gone by the time the nukes got there (they were, thanks to my bombers).

During that time, he tried to get me to nuke my own silos, but I caught most of them. Only two of my silo nukes hit my own silos. In the end, he couldn't switch them to launch mode, because there were no nukes left. Score one for xander.

At any rate, here is the final screen:

R O T F L

VERY nicely done xander.

But honestly, if he is capable of surfacing your subs (not to mention everything else...), he has to see em... And your entire navy too... For pro gamers, that would be just good enough to reduce you to mere 10-20% of pop left, with no silos, airfields, etc...

Damn, I hope IV will do something about that...

Bah, he didn't play fair. This sucks :) As you can imagine, this was probably the most embarrasing moment of my whole online life.

As xander himself pointed out later in IRC, I even forgot to disarm his nukes this time. I was very sloppy and got punished. Now go ahead and laugh at me.

Let's take the "Bert may cheat" discussion into the tournament game organization thread, ok? Here is the place to make fun of me and see me make silly excuses for my failure, like:

I wanted to demonstrate that with cheating, you need absolutely zero skill in the game. That's why I played worse than a n00b and relied purely on cheating, and didn't even do that well. It was all the way it was meant to be. Of course, I still failed at doing that and it turns out a minimal skill is required.
