Quickly teamed up with Asia (RG1) so as to not have to devote as much time to the Indian Ocean, but left three battleships four carriers and six subs hanging around in case of treachery. Europe (Pres. Reagan) and the USSR (Kiwi) matched up, and were quickly joined by NA (Bongo). Tard in SA was approached by both sides but opted to stay neutral, promising me that I "Wouldn't be the first target".
Blue (RG1 and I) promptly sent 16 subs to go take advantage of that fact, and as Defcon 2 hit 12 bombers were already en route across the south atlantic to help out. Shortly before they launched, about 5 minutes into Defcon 1, word came out over the public chat that southern South America was completely Silo-free, as they'd all been found near Mexico. The east coast was prompty flattened by myself whilst North America launched at central SA, and within about ten minutes SA was down to ~25 points.
A fairly intense naval battle in the mid-Atlantic opened, with forces from both Europe and North America hitting my fleet pretty badly, but all my 8 carriers in the area survived, along with four of my six subs. A large sub strike force from Bongo and Reagan was squashed by carriers pinging away like mad. Gradually the remnants of their fleets were beaten back, leaving my now somewhat-ineffective carrier groups to move north, however most of my bombers had been lost in the naval battle.
An abortive bomber strike from my northern three airbases failed to do much damage to the joint EU and USSR defensive array, and as I'd placed airbases a little close to Europe, they were pretty much hit all the way home and I lost a good few. RG1 had more sucess dealing with the eastern end of the USSR, but took some serious damage in the Sea of Japan region.
Halfway through Defcon 1, Tard attempted to pair up with us in Blue, but figuring him as a spent force, we pretty much ignored him for the rest of the match. The northern NA/EU/USSR alliance crumbled, and Europe took a bit of a battering. Bongo dropped, leaving the CPU to finish with him mid-place.
The final stages opened with a second abortive bomber run on Europe, along with a sub strike on Europe's air defences until Europe (apparently keen to see the USSR fall from top spot) offered me a ceasefire to make use of his airspace to hit Kiwi. Promptly accepted, my remaining carrier bombers headed to hit Leningrad. A third and final bomber wave attempted to hit Moscow, with relatively decent sucesses as RG1's own bomber force had until now been doing a very good job of keeping Kiwi's defences occupied.
Finally the last three majors opened with Silos, and Kiwi got hammered by myself and RG1. I lobbed a few nukes in Europe's direction just to help push third place further down the table. A few of Kiwi's nukes headed my way, and by switching silos back to air defence once 90% of my remaining nukes got away, most of them were stopped.
In conclusion, by virtue of a lovely non-treacherous alliance (for once!) and the fact that no-one really came at me hard, I was able to pull off a fairly convincing 30-odd point lead, and considering how my day's been (crap) I was chuffed. Verily.
