Exposing Exploits and Cheaters -- Etiquette ?

Postby PSBirch » Wed May 09, 2007 9:56 pm

So what's the etiquette for exposing people using exploits?

In a game just not FNj used the hudson bay exploit to send his subs to nuke NA.

I asked him not to do it and got no reply, then a few minutes later he dropped. Should I have screamed "cheater cheater" and got him booted? Should I have alerted North America and/or the Yellow team in general?

Until its fixed its gunna happen. just gotta put up with it im afraid.

Seriously need to get some rating system that takes/adds points depending on dropping a server or a host shutting or etc etc. or if someone leaves in a 1v1 before its finishes the other person gets a +1 default point for their rating.

To my mind, the *ideal* answer would be to quietly approach every other player via private chat message, and, without saying anything to the glitcher, agree to unitedly silo, bomb and sub their continent until even the cockroaches are having thoughts about relocating to more hospitable climes.

No backstabs, no forming a proper alliance, just (in effect) write off the game for the great cause of teaching someone to be a better person lol.

If they go "what the hell?!" a polite "well, you bought it upon yourself..." would then suffice.

It'd be hideously good fun!

If the defcon community were really up for keeping a lid on glitching and exploiting, a thread with something like "The undersigned agree to join a temporary alliance in order to nuke seven kinds of crap out of anyone seen glitching..." would enable people to show their willingness to join such a pact if a game they were in was found to have someone using devious means lol.

Course it wouldn't stomp it out entirely but people could at least be sure that if they wanted to team up with other players mid-game to squish an exploiter, they could be sure that they wouldn't be backstabbed in doing so.

Anyone who exploits this bug is unlikely even a mediocre player.

As my game just now showed, they'll be easy to whitewash without too much hassle...

the only time it is appropriate to exploit a bug (yes, there are appropriate times...) is against a noob, or a friend. The intimidation factor alone of seeing ships floating on land would be hilarious for a noob. Poor little guy'll break down and cry.
