In trying to get Game One of the unofficial tournament going, we set a time of 1:30AM GMT, four players showed up. If only dread would have, we could have kick started the tournament.
Anyway, using the new 1.41beta2 patch and me hosting we went with random territories and 200 million pop. countersmurf and RatPrice are the two not scheduled in game one, but they popped in after we went to normal play.
It was an excellent game. I had a good laugh when I realized that I was sitting next to countersmurf as Russia/Europe and then asked for a truce. He agreed there'd be no backstabbing and so did I. RatPrice wanted to join but I wanted to be able to hit Asia from the start and countersmurf was sure we didn't need a third party.
Trying to scope out where I needed to be, I put 8 subs in the pacific and sent them to S. America, 4 subs off of Japan, and my entire fleet in huddled in the pacific against my eastern coast.
Defcon 3: I think RatPrince and Diomedes must have went head to head in the Indian Because I don't remember there being to much of an Asian naval presence. I started to move in a little south and began picking off ships here and there.
Defcon 2: I empty my bases over Siberia, 20 bombers heading northeast.
Defcon 1: With very little resistance, I push ahead with striking from my carriers and at the same time come down out of russia and take out a silo or two I can see. I also manage to take out a couple of bases. My four subs near Japan assist once his radar is gone. During this, JESUS is hitting Rudehealth (S.A/N.A.) and countersmurf is making his normal run for first. I start to worry as both of them have scores in the 200+ and I'm still working on Asia. I think JESUS surfaced a few subs that I tried to quickly neutralize, I couldn't have anybody else hitting Asia.
After taking out everything but one Asian Silo, I survey the globe. I use four of my S. American subs to hit JESUS's west coast and then send the other four to Cape. They're in perfect position when he launches not to long afterwards and I hit his southern cites and lob a few nukes to his southern silos for good measure.
In the mean time, I notice that Africa is the only "blank" territory. A quick scan of the population and I realize that it is also my only hope. I send my entire fleet to the Indian and hope to avoid any naval battle. Thankfully there is little resistance. I spot a couple of JESUS carriers hiding on the western side of Australia pretty far south and take them out. I then position myself against Africa. Wave after wave of small groups of bombers pick off the coastal cities while I try to determine when to use my silos.
I could see 2 or 3 silos in northern Africa so I targeted them first and then bottom to top city wise and prepared a last few bombers to sneak in while the nukes were flying. Towards the end of it all, Diomedes finally opened his up but it was too late. To my surprise, I had been able to pull ahead for the win. Too bad this wasn't really Game One of the tournament....
