cool screen X!
I hope more spec screens can be posted as they tell the whole story...
If I host my next game I will downgrade my settings + fewer specs to ensure optimal performance for everyone. I think I will keep the PW into the game to block new (unrelated) specs logging in all the time. Tourney players who want to spec must PM for the PW...
I enjoyed that game very much. The tension in itself was payoff enough. I'm happy I succeeded so well with my strat. Domino's placing was lucky for me, but I think no one would have turned those freebies down. Besides, he had his entire fleet at my west, I had 90% Sao - go figure. I'm a bit puzzled that he didn't utilize all the intel he got from me at the start. If he had been swift, he would have most definately made 3rd (if not higher)

I thought that was odd too, but I wonder if this happened AFTER the game had ended. I think I recall other specs chatting with us as well. May it be that private chat is reset to public when the game is over?

Hey
Anyway, is it just me or are these matchs getting more "nuke crazy" as we go along?

Probably it's just you! Current statistics show game 3 as the "safest", although game 4 is undoubtedly the bloodiest. Death ratios for the three games played so far are: 72.8%, 64.5% and 84.3% for games 1, 3 and 4 respectively.
If game 3 was in fact more nuke crazy than game 1, then I'm afraid it was far less effective.

My plan was to get as much from my ICBM's early launching on Asia and Europe, and pick up as much as possible from my fleet.
When I saw your unit position it looked like too much trouble to go at you so I sent my navy west. I think I got Mexico and a couple of other of your undefended northern cities.
Really I allied with you to buy some time, but that didn't work.
The general tone seems to be I shouldn't have left my cities open but, as you pointed out RC I ended up with the 2nd lowest deaths - I didn't loose because I abandoned my cities, I lost because I wasn't quick enough to the punch.
Next time. (maybe
Oh and my screen was saturated in bacon fat so I couldn't see things too well

Game 3
rubbed my hands with glee at the staring location (SA) as with a cpu above me, and some tentative alliance building with africa before i placed i figuered i could dominate the atlantic, mop up US and EU points and come out in top three.
It all started to go horribly wrong as the CPU navy moved to engage me! Having played only players for a long time, i was unprepared for its relentless attacking (speshully fighters) and was also unprepared to launch my bombers, as i wanted all of them for an alpha strike on US. No good getting the silos only to have some pacific bugger (Due in this case) mop up the cities. Managed to save all but one carrier and come out on top. Classic sub strike combined with bombers gave me a good solid points base.
This left me with somewhat of a dilemma. There was plenty of milage left in some of US cities, but the big boys of EU were being flattened without me! I needed those points. Shot all silos off to tokyo then the two visible silos in EU and western and central EU cities. Think i got most of tokyo points, although some had been taken by cpu. London was already a gonner but cpu (eu) launched while my nukes were inbound, giving me quite a haul from its cities. Then it was just a case of resisting the urge to nail Kinshasa (it looked like Due Accident was gonna win from my perspective) and mopping up the last of NA. I had one sub left right off the coast of Seoul, and played a long waiting game.
My wait paid off when zjoere went for Due's eastern sea-board. I surfaced and snuck 2 nukes in with his before being sunk. One made it to Seoul, secureing the victory.
Due, it was all WOPR's ships in the indian. Mine were all in atlantic. Was so used to killing CPU ships by now that when Zjoere's navy showed up in force, i hardly batted an eyelid. Was surprised when they ran away from my nukes, before finally realising it was a meat opponent, and deserved more respect!
GG. Glad the red alliance held.

May the blessing of the bomb almighty descend on us all, this day and forever more.
Game 4 - View from Russia
On a standard public server I'd be happy to be Russia, but in this company I thought 'oh sh*t!' and expected to play my 1st and last game. Of the players I knew, I was more than happy to see RC on the other side of the Globe, but knew I had a vicious rattlesnake in Africa, with unknown players to either side of me. X's screenie showed me what I expected, which was a combined sub and bomber launch from the Indian Ocean/Gulf to severely damage my Silos and Cities. What I did'nt expect was minimal damage - I diverted a bomber heading to India to drop a nuke on the subs reasonably quickly, maybe that helped.
EU beat me to Cairo where I took the scraps but my main haul was East where I'd sent carriers over Siberia. I was in the middle of launching bombers when China did a full Silo launch. As I was too far away to take out the silos quickly I hit the exposed cities (just beating RC to Tokyo it seems
). Realising India was open I then sent bombers to hit there.
My last major attack was unfortunately on my EU allie. I knew I was heading to 100+ points but also I'd lose 60+ when the rain arrived on my cities. While most of my bombers were launching I saw the heavy attack going on in southern EU and knew that I had three choices 1. Use heavy resources for a relatively low points return from Africa 2. Launch Silos at Americas - little or nothing left to hit! 3. Do as RC did and make use of the open door next to me.
I wanted to advance, so took the points on offer and I'm glad I did, as three colours of rain started falling in my sky in the middle of my own attacks. I spent the rest of the game picking off points to try and catch RC, who did the same to stay in front. The game was more agressive than I expected and I'm glad and possibly fortunate to get through. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
