I'm at a loss on the first game. For once, I can't remember what tactics I used. Typically, all I have to do is skim over the picture and things come back. Anyway... results:
Second game, this one was a blast to play and just sit back and watch. Zenon-294 was on duty for global reporting and kept us briefed on the events as they happened. Statements issued by world leaders, military events and (general) outcomes, and even the commentary you've come to expect with today's reporters. He did have one heckler but handled that in true journalist fashion, he ignored him. In any even, thanks Zenon-294 and feel free to provide "fair and balanced"
On to the events... The 3 vs 3 setup was taken care of very early in the game so I cautiously requested clearance to use Europe's northwest coast as a launching point for my SRBM's. I explained I wanted to help with Russia, knowing that Weps would leave his cities unguarded. I wanted first crack at them. I think we nervously eyed each other until Defcon 1 and my missiles did indeed pass over Europe. At least it seemed he was maneuvering for a quick fix on my sub position for a bit.
Eventually, Europe was out of commission and I was now vulnerable with having placed 90 percent of my fleet in the pacific. The entire game I kept every bomber from all four bases and 1 fleet of carrier based bombers patrolling for subs. Turned out unnecessary as there was very little submarine activity around my territory, well at least after I found and removed a couple.
In the Pacific, I crept my fleet west trying to get a fix on Asia's Pacific forces and hopefully neutralize them. We (the turquoise team) were suspicious of PureThug's "apparent" newness to Defcon during the game lobby chat and the start. Turns out he really only had played a couple of games and skipped the tutorial. Had I believed this from the beginning, I wouldn't have been so cautious and defensive the entire game. Anyway, I mopped up most of his fleet at the cost of four battleships. The three remaining he had protecting his eastern coast were eliminated at the end of the game. They were stationed against the coast of China.
At the very end, I was in the lead and spotted a small (or so I thought) fleet of Weps battleships moving down the Atlantic. With bombers already airborne, I switch to launch mode and tried to dispatch as many of them as I could. He quickly retreated and I recovered my bombers. At this point I was still scouting like crazy but Weps managed to stay out of my radar above Greenland. He had redirected his forces, not retreated as I thought. I hadn't seen any carriers and foolishly believed that his battleships were just scouting for action as he was "out" of nukes. I was wrong. What seemed like a thousand fighters came across the Hudson Bay looking for targets.
Now, there's no real defending against Weps bombers (at least if you're relying solely on Silos) so as soon as I was sure he was targeting cities I opened up my Silos and targeted Jesus. He was the closest enemy territory and the victory timer was around 25 minutes. I knew winning was a lost cause but figured I could still secure second. Kudos to Weps for a well played game. Heh, I had 8 subs over Russia just waiting for him to open up his silos - four in the East Siberian Sea and four in the Barents Sea. I wasn't exactly sure where his silos were, but knew they'd be off by themselves. The circle over Russia was where I figured they'd be. When he finally opened them up, only the four over Siberia were close enough to strike. I think he said I managed to hit 5 silos before the one that was closest to my subs lobbed a nuke over and took my valiant submariners out. The other four just hit what scraps were left of western Russia.
Game three was a little different. We didn't have any news coverage
We decided the teams before getting started (random territories) and off we went. With Feud as my European neighbor I knew that the Euro/Russian pact would be dominant. Having never (that I can recall) playing with Quetzaquoal, I wasn't sure of his/her ability. However, with Weps off by himself and having a new player under Feud, I figured the game was in the bag. Now don't think for a second that I wasn't prepared for Weps to make a strong run for first.
Anyway, we're just getting started placing our units and a terrifying message comes across the screen... "Feud Dropped"
Unfortunately, the CPU began placing his units. I knew that the game was no longer stacked in our favor and needed to act quickly. So with Defcon 2, I launch every bomber I could muster and sent them east over my northern border. I could see most of danger ranger's units, so I planned to go all out against him and soak up as many points from Asia as I could. Defcon 1 and he's got 40+ bombers (from me) and all 6 silos ready to send him a "welcome to global thermonuclear war" greeting. When the bomber wave was done and I was sure which of his silos/bases were still standing, I targeted them and every city I could. Needless to say, not long after the Start of Defcon 1, my southern neighbor was left without much hope.
I had placed most of my naval forces in the Pacific banking on Feuds ability to hold the Atlantic. They were primarily meant for Weps later on, but I used them to help clear out Asian naval units. I had also placed all 12 subs against Japan for either an African or S. American strike later. With danger ranger eliminated and PureThug somewhat new status, I sent them to Africa. The few hits I mustered against Weps western coast plus the Eight sub strike against Africa sealed the win for me. The other four were used to take out more of the Asian populace.
As a side note, at Defcon 4 a massive force of orange battleships and carriers was revealed in the mid-Atlantic. I thought for sure I would see orange ships off of my coast eventually. My team somehow managed to hold them off. Thanks! Also, the CPU for some reason joined in with my early strike and benefited from my efforts against danger ranger. The CPU did Feud proud.
