Well, I just played probably the best genocide game ever.

Unfortunatley, it seems like you cant bring someones population down to 0 no matter how hard you try. All of europes cities reported 0 population and despite repeated bombing I was unable to bring it to 0 :(

Every time a nuke hits a city, it reduces the city's population by 1/2 . Anything less than 50,000 (0.05 million) people is reported as 0.0, but the game does keep track of smaller populations. Thus, if there are 25 cities, and each one still has, say 40,000 people in it, the total population of the continent will be 1 million. It is basically impossible to reduce a player to 0 population in a game of Defcon -- there will always be a few thousand people left in each city. Also, you face diminishing returns for nuking them. If a city starts with 1 million people, it takes five nukes to get it down to "0.0" population (1 -> 0.5 -> 0.25 -> 0.125 -> 0.0625 -> 0.03125 == 0), but even after using those five nukes, there are still 31,250 in the city. Those little populations can add up. ;)

Heh. How did I know that you were going to post that screenshot? However, I did couch my terms carefully. It is, basically, impossible to get a population of 0.0. Playing Zion mode is a bit different. And no one seriously plays Zion anyway. ;) In a basic game of Defcon (25-50 cities, normal population limits, 2-6 players (at least one human)), it is pretty much impossible to drop a player's total population to 0.0 .
