A possible All Star Preview

Postby Feud » Sun Mar 04, 2007 8:56 am

Tonight a game went down in which a number of the players suggested for the DEFCON All Stars wer involved. Needless to say, it was crazy.

The game started with two teams quickly emerging; the yellow alliance consiting of the Americas and Africa (Ace Rimmer, Radient Caligula, and M3). and the green alliance of europe, russia, and asia (countersmurf, ROFL, and myself).

Things were realetivly quiet to begin with, Ace sailed a massive fleet up the berring strait, and quickly overran ROFL's forces there. But besides that, it was the standard skirmishing. Then DEFCON 1 hit.

The yellows launched an all out attack on Europe, and all but leveled it, effectivly taking it out of major gameplay. As they did so, I launched a massive attack of silo based nukes at Mexico, teh NA west coast, and the African east coast. Just as my missles begain to arrive, the yellow alliance collapsed, with Ace now standing alone.

Fighting continued as I tried to hit Africa, taking out it's Indian Ocean fleet. Just as I launched my attack ROFL left the green alliance, but befroe he could take advantage of this sudden leaving, he found himself under attack from the Americas. I quickly swung my African bound bombers Northward, landing a few shots into Moscow. Meanwhile, North and South America blasted away at each other, with North America gaining the upperhand.

As the time wore on, the game begainto slow to coastal raids: Ace hitting Rusia and Asia from the Arctic Ocean, some fightig in the atlantic (which I could not see), and my own forces raiding NA from off of California.

The victory timer started just after Caligula launched his silos. Rofl and I both opened up on South America from subs, and one missle may have found it's way from my sub to his adjacent sub. As the game came to a close, Ace was the clear winner.

All in all, it was one of the most intense games I've played. Well done everyone!

If any of those involved have anyhting to add to the write up, feel free!

You should see game #2 where Caligula beats me by 1 point because my wife came and distracted me right before a big betrayal and the huge skulduggery/collusion that followed between Europe and me. :o

In my defense, I KNEW Ace was going to go there, but I dc'd right at D3 but didn't want to miss what was going to happen next! It turns out his forces up there weren't a major factor; his hitting Moscow and Leningrad when I had my pants down after Europe got smacked were major points source for him.
NOT TO TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM ACE. HE PLAYED AWESOME! (Well just about everyone did). 8)

I feel for the unknown guy in Game #2 that wandered in and got the hell beat out of him. Welcome to Defcon.

Feud, I love you, don't nuke my subs!

Hopefully Ace writes up as well. I'm too beat after a long day on the forums and ingame, either playing or teaching new players some basics that are totally left out of the tut.

I'll add my side of the story...

When the game started and I realized Radiant was below me and countersmurf as Europe, I knew I was in trouble. Countersmurf is one hell of a player and I believed that he would overtake me in the Atlantic. I didn't want to get bogged down there and waste time so I only put a small force there and prepared for an early backstab against Radiant.

I put most of my forces in the pacific and sent the north through the straight hoping to catch Russia/Europe off guard late in the game. Normally I wait until Defcon 4 to see if there's any radar in far easter Russia to make sure my slip through the straight is unseen. This game I knew I would have to act fast and didn't wait.

At defcon 4 while 8 battleships and 8 carriers were almost starting their pass thorough the straight, radar revealed ROFL had 3 carriers doing the same thing. I quickly launched bombers and took those out. I then realized he had subs going through and switched all my carriers over to anti-sub wiping that fleet out. He wasn't too happy about that.

I only had a little part in hitting Europe, early on Radiant and M3 sent massive waves of bombers and used up quite a lot of nukes there. That made my decision to backstab a lot easier knowing they had committed so much already to Europe. With my early points from hitting my former ally and the free points I received from bombers over Russia (who were not challenged very much) victory was in the bag.

It was a really great game, the next one was even better... (although I didn't win that one) Something about "I had it coming"...

Edit: ROFLaming beat me to it. I'll write up about the second game if no one else does.

We had 1 -- Peacekeeper. Who I offered my play spot to for $10. I got shouted down for that! :D

IIRC the host did not allow spectators in the second game. I don't remember the context but someone may have mentioned the whole speclag thing and as much as I feel that is superstition if they are there when the game starts, no matter. But I feel any good war deserves *some* observers!

what in the lords name are you talking about? lol.

You just made urself a grudge in the game before, ;-)

But these were smashing games. We played at least 3 games in the "all star category". Best games in months... Can't wait for more.

Btw if countersmurf reads this, I had a little firewall accident and my diplomacy server crashed. Sorry buddy, it wouldve been a great clash even though I believe my minions were going to weaken you enough :o
sorry

hope I will make it into the next allstar game!

Game 2. Notice my 18.4m in collateral. That happened when my wife was going to nuke me at the same time I was nuking London. Final score was actually 255.7 vs. 255.2.

One of the few games that ROFLaming and I didn't finish close.

This game made me stop and think about having anonymous in-game names just for the sake of preventing a gang-up on one player because of his previous actions in a previous game. I believe carr suggested it sometime ago. (too lazy to look now)

Perhaps once the game time/players are set, the server could be set up with a password only given to the players and each player privately use Player 1, Player 2 and so on as they join the game. Then once the all the players join the game and before the game starts the password could be removed so people could spectate? Seems as though this would equalize each players chance. Thoughts?

Last night my 7 year-old daughter Seanna said that "Orange Sucks" when she looked at my screen. She does like the fact that my nukes are raccoons though.

It would be more fair. Cal knows my game pretty well and I nearly broke out a sweat trying to defend against his standard "I'm Asia and 395793573493 bombers and subs are going to attack you from the Indian Ocean! BWAHAHAHAHA Flamingo. YOUR BITCH ASS IS MINE NOW! MUHAHAHHAHAHA" tactic when I play him.

Or at least that's what I guess he was thinking. However, he was probably thinking that in some dead European language.

It comes with the territory IMO. When the DCMr was active I was at one point the rated leader. Everyone wanted my points of course and I got smacked back to hell and a couple of flips too. I have entered games as a "noob" only to surprise ppl that I wasn't a freshy after all. But I think hiding our true selves would be like Mike Tyson in his golden days painting himself white and changing his name to John Cleese...

ha ha, its not 395793573493 bombers. It's 395793573495 thank you very much!

But being enemy (or enema...) with Russia as Asia doesnt leave you many options and it is indeed a very visually striking, eh, strike...

And what Im really thinking is : Ha Ha der fikk han inn, den jævelen, med fittesaft opp i ræven så hodet eksploderer og fyller Nordpolen med rød hjernemasse!!!

Doesnt really make much sense, other than that I got to use a lot of filthy words, ;-)
