It sucks that he cheated. We thought he was this great player. But the overreaction to this is astounding. You are generalizing one player with the whole community.

That being said, you are throwing stones in a glass house. Anyone here who has never cheated at any game that they've ever played should chuck the next stone.

Sure give him a 2nd chance. Living with the shame can be a tough one. If he can live up to it and honour the game why not.

Sure theres a trust issue but it make the community stronger if we are able to get over things!

If you are so adamant about granting him a second chance - do it for all. I challenge this community to unban all currently banned players (other than obvious ones such as CE who have committed repeated infractions). Their offenses are typically extremely insignificant compared to Laika's, such as simply nuking an ally in a 2v2. Go ahead - grant them all a second chance. But even that still wouldn't even things out.

You know, we have discussed the cheating option for us many years ago, but we never did it.

Excerpt from dedcon manual:

"Ghosting" is a popular, low tech cheating method; you log in to a server both as a player and a spectator and use the spectator to collect intel to use as the player. More sophisticated methods can't be detected, but a simple IP comparison can stop most cheaters.

First of all I did it because I could. You don't need any special knowledge, time or money investment. Sure I will not do this again, but community can't afford to shoo every suspected ghoster. I thought about mvpe proposal of whitelisted specs; it can be done with 1) putting a simple (1-3 symbol) password on server which is not removed after start, 2) keeping an open registry with all who have the pw (name + part of IP); 3) more people with admin rights on those servers. Unregistered names are banned on sight. Admins can check IP if there are any suspicions, not match -> ban. In before, if it goes any further, as long as I control servers there will be "open' ones - because many people will not like the routine. Sort of a "milder" league.

Secondly, imo some people don't like me breaking image of that "great player" more than cheating itself. I knew about my nice reputation and toyed with it. Because, you know, it's internet.
