You have Windows 7 now, which is a bit more security concerned than XP was. You must give Defcon admin rights. Right now, when you 'paste' your Defcon key, Windows 7 is not allowing Defcon to update the authkey file (which contains the actual key), which means the next time you start it up, it's looking at an unchanged Demo key.

Option A: Right click on Defcon every time you play and use "Run as Administrator"

Option B: (I think) right click on Defcon.exe / Security tab / (to change permissions, click Edit) Edit ... / make sure all user names show Allow - Full Control (check marks).

To prevent similiar issues with other applications, User Account Control can be disabled (Control Panel -> User Accounts (or Profiles, I'm not sure about titles in english version of Win7) -> User Account Control. Then, drag slider to the bottom). This also should help with your problem.

Solved in other way. I make it run by changing "compatibility" (run as windows xp)

this actually sounds like the "all files are read only" problem in windows 7. all my files in the Programs folder are set to read only and there is no way to change them. i found my solution here:

http://itexpertvoice.com/home/fixing-th ... der-blues/

had to turn off the UAC and manually set the defcon folder in command prompt to take off the read only attribute.

really stupid windows bug.

Turning UAC off and rebooting was enough for me.

not me. i had to first turn off UAC, reboot, then manually set each folder to take off the read only attribute :(
