everything possible that could have went wrong did in that game...
1) it was russia vs africa, the hardest setup in the game
2) i ran out of speed budget DURING the silo launch, chat was closed so i didn't see the warning
so a 4 point difference was expected! next time i will be aware of the speed budget on that server

No, with your current tactics there is no capability whatsoever.
I am not really sure of the parameters of this 1v1 contest between hooru and TOM BUSCH-US. Is it that Tom must forever continue to only "play his way?" Do they not allow Tom to ever learn, or adapt his playing style?
If Tom never changes his play style, he will lose them all. If he adapts, he may win before 50.
OMG Tom, natural species that exhibit your type of non-adaptive behavior go extinct. Why do you keep doing the same shit over and over, yet expect the outcome to somehow be different?
For all of your play Tom, have you never watched the tactics employed by players that actually win 1v1 games? I've sat in on a few games of this challenge, and I can tell you right off that you make far too many mistakes in each and every game.
First, don't always split your fleet as you do. Of all the games you've played so far versus hooru, how many times has he split his fleet against you? So, as you play now, chances are that you will be facing his full fleet with only a partial fleet. Why create this disadvantage for yourself?
Second, you surrender the initiative to hooru by deploying what primary fleet you do have too defensively. I've seen you place carriers on anti-sub at defcon 3 that are so far behind your lines that enemy subs can't get there for hours (game-time). These resources are wasted, and by the time enemy subs do get to these positions, they are accompanied by escorts that overwhelm these single carriers.
Third, you waste you air assets. You send multiple fighters "into space," recklessly. Try sending just one or two fighters into that same space, and then, once a target is located, direct all fighters on that target and keep re-directing them on the same target until it is killed. Your habit of sending multiple fighters deep into empty space allows them all to be killed before they ever get to a point where the AI will re-direct them. Similarly with your bombers: try encircling the area you wish to naval nuke rather than sending your bombers in a straight line. As it goes now, a single hooru fighter kills 2 or 3 of your bombers. If they were spread out, that single fighter could not get them all.
Fourth, your habit of wasting fighters is made far worse by your habit of not re-supplying fighters to your carriers. Try this: for every fighter you deploy from a carrier you must immediately re-supply that carrier with a fighter from an air-base. Now, by the time you get around to re-supplying your carriers, hooru is picking them off (as empties) one-by-one.
Fifth: Stop the crazy around the world fleet maneuvers and sub sneaking. Sending 6 carriers over NA as EU versus SA accomplishes nothing, except taking these carriers out of action in the atlantic. My problem with this whole challenge is that for some reason you may enjoy these wacky maneuvers over winning itself. You often comment "lol" or the like as they become revealed. Please realize, however, that your opponent is thinking: "ho-hum" to the same maneuver. And, sneaking 6-8 subs never works. You're lucky if 4 make it, and then these are always uncovered at launch. I myself enjoy sub-sneaking, but restrict these to 1 or 2 singlets maximum.
In short, you are taking 6-8 facial jabs by hooru before you can even get into position to try a hook, which is always being blocked. Take this dude head-on and you have a chance. Get crackin'!

hooru has (hopefully) demonstrated to Tom that you can play much better in even less time. One game was less than 20 minutes.
If you don't want to invest the time, you must accept some degree of noobery in your game play. Figuring out how much to accept is the key. Hooru's performance is a different issue, because he definitely did not arrive at his abilities with minimal time investment. He has many *thoughtful* days invested, and he's playing against Tom. Absent the investment and much weaker opponent, it is not possible to play much better in less time. I would like to see Hooru use the tactics he's doing against Tom, at the same speed, against you or R3D or Schub-a-dub, for instance.
At best, Tom could invest more time in training if he traded his multiple 20-30 minute games for a single serious game, and a little private practice. That would let him elevate his game enough that hooru would have to face him as a serious player instead of the tricks he is using now. But if hooru did that, Tom would still not win the challenge. Investment/skills-wise, it's Tom' Titanic encountering hooru's iceberg of defcon knowledge.
He will only win if hooru miscalculates one of the games-within-the-game he has been playing; in the 70 games remaining, Tom will never be able to dictate a game to hooru.

I think you missunderstand me. I simply meant that from Tom's perspective, he can't be bothered to do anything different because he doesn't have time for it because of Real Life tm, while hooru has shown that you can play much better in the same (or less) amount of time. The whole "you must invest time to get that good" was implied.
Also, it has been a very long time since I played as fast as they do, so hooru could/would probably tear most of us up if we played 10/20x most of the game.

Certainly this can not be the case, for as CZA points out, trading one thoughtful game for a few off-the-cuff rushed games is the same time investment. If Tom himself has offered this as a reason for his losses, I would consider it as no more than an obfuscating excuse. Rather, I believe Tom has a particular psychological flaw of sorts that inhibits him from adapting. Perhaps he enjoys certain routines (obsessive-compulsive) no matter their consequence. Or, perhaps he has some immature tendencies where he must strive to prove his failed-tactics to the world (Oedipus complex). Maybe he just enjoys some strange pleasure from doing shit his own way, regardless of the (socially accepted) outcome (self-defeating anti-social egoist). Maybe he just enjoys the attention his status as professional-loser has garnered. Dunno. But I sincerely believe that there is something else going on here than a mere time investment issue.

Yes, unlike what you have failed to do so far with hooru, you have indeed taken some games from me, usually the last in a series of 3 or more in a row. I'd guess we are about 45-5 lifetime (there are recordings). So, get on the ball fella and get a few wins vs hooru, will you?
Btw, your redundant riposte contains a spelling error; perhaps Freudian in nature ...

Such an abreaction is normal. Now please translate your emotions into defeating hooru.
