Final Level, Final Boss [End Aug 12, 2011]

Postby Ace Rimmer » Mon Jun 20, 2011 5:33 pm

Prizes!

I have asked a few on the servers about an idea for a new tourney of sorts and they all seemed to be ok with it, so here goes...

How about a 'show' tourney where we pit players who have been around for a long time and are one of the best, not just good, they would need to be considered elite (for lack of a better term) versus everybody else. Sort of a Vet vs Noob. Now, the only objection I've received so far is the "well, the vets will Always win and crush others". This might happen, but I think there'd been some excellent games, and it would give players a chance to prove their skills and/or improve, perhaps even enough to join the elite.

This wouldn't be a long tourney and the non-vets would be expected to lose most of the time, so there'd be no pressure on them. However, as mentioned previously, they'd get an opportunity to try and really get better. In other words, how many video games have you played where you were stuck at a certain level and kept playing it till you finally beat it? This would be like the 'final boss' of Defcon for many players (baring any serious bot that ever gets finished).

Anybody willing to participate? If so, we would need some way to decide who would have Boss status, probably be best if it was voted on by a group of recognized and participating Boss players, I.e., (MOR), Nightwatch, rus|Mike, Senator, etc.

Say In if you would play as a regular, Boss if you think you're good enough to be considered best of the best. Note: some players can't play as regular (e.g. Nightwatch, rus|Mike).

POINT SYSTEM Works for 1v1 and 2v2, and even 3v3! It's challenger vs Boss/es, so as long as it's equal teams, it doesn't matter (all default settings).

some players can't play as regular (e.g. Nightwatch, rus|Mike).

Pfff, I hereby withdraw my consent.
:P

Do you want to go 2v2 or 1v1 now?
You know my position, 1v1 is the way to go.

Anyway, join guys and gals, join.

Oops, I mean 2v2. There would be zero chance (nearly) if it was 1v1. 2v2 gives people a fighting chance; communication breakdown, not working as a team, etc. :P

:P

Speaking of glory, there would be stats, but instead of rank or position ('cause that'd be irrelevant), there'd be a shame/glory points system.

Challengers win over Bosses, they get glory points
Challengers lose to Bosses, they get moral victory points
Bosses win over Challengers, they get nothing (duh, they crused the noobs :P )
Bosses lose to Challengers, they get shame points. Hahaha.

Bosses start out with a high point level (they're bosess!), so shame points reduce that.
Challengers start out with nothing.

This way every game the noobs get something out of it besides a beating and perhaps an education. :P Bosses already have glory and prestige, so they dont need 'nothin.

Although, I do have a trophy I'm making, so there's that too.

Actually, I don't see any reason to make it just 2v2, so 1v1 and 2v2 it is.

Though, if you read above, you'd notice that Bosses dont get glory points (only shame, because they're bosses :) ).

Let's examine the criteria:

... who have been around for a long time (check)
and are one of the best (no)
not just good, they would need to be considered elite ... (sorry, no)

verus

everybody else (<--- you are here)

You'd be a 'challenger'. I would assume if enough people played and played long enough (number of games), some select few might evlove into boss status, or at least skill. This would depend on their williningless to lose, overcome failure, and learn to play better. Over time they'd be recognized at this level.

Edit: All default settings, so join up (MOR).

Sure, but consider this...

If I put you as a Boss, you'd only get shame points for losing and nothing for wining. Being a challenger (not necessarily a noob) means you have a chance for glory. :)

Bosses are normally the 'evil' characters, so why would anyone want to be a boss? As a side note, I think Dr Robotnik would be a fine boss representation of nightwatch.

What? We're talking about 'wining' at globalthermonulcear war. :P Boss fits.

Edit: You just suggested a great idea, each Boss gets a persona from some video game.

My suggestion for MOR is "Gomander" from one of the hardest game ever made, R-type.

Image
Gomander is a giant lump of flesh with one eye protruding from the top and tubes (8 in 2D, 12 in 3D) that let the Outslay move in and out of its body.
